One Can Suit Barbs This Time

By Jeff Collerson
Despite being an excellent railer Go Forward Barbs has what trainer Adam Campton describes as a "terrible record from box one" but she should remedy this at Wentworth Park tonight.

Go Forward Barbs will wear the red rug in the Hidez Australia Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, which appears to represent a sharp drop in class for Campton's consistent sprinter.

With two wins, two seconds and a third from eight Wentworth Park appearances, Go Forward Barbs has a better record at the track than any of her rivals tonight.

"The last time she had box one Go Forward Barbs got run down by Ziggy Star at Wentworth Park on October 9,'' Campton said.

"You would think she would love box one because she is such a good railer but even from that draw she tends to go left a little bit at the start.

"That gives the dogs on her outside plenty of room.''

But Go Forward Barbs look set to break through for her first inside box victory after seven defeats from the prized rails alley.

Ziggy Star, who conquered her at Wenty in October, led in the early stages when second to Sound Of Silence in a particularly strong third and fourth grade race at headquarters on Saturday.

Box one could produce several winners at Wentworth Park on tonight , among them Harrison Keeping, who will carry the scarlet vest in the Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Unlike Go Forward Barbs, Harrison Keeping has not previously had box one but has been successful in two of his five starts.

Harrison Keeping made his Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday from box seven but lost all chance at the first turn when a wide runner almost bowled him over.

Trainer Sarah Easey said: "When he came up with box one on Wednesday I thought to myself thank heavens.

"Harrison Keeping did himself no favours last Wednesday because from his wide draw he went hard left as he left the boxes.

"But then he was put out of business completely at the first turn.

"Harrison Keeping is capable of running very quick first two sections at Wenty but his run home times are not brilliant.

"I'm just hoping he is out in front on the back straight and that Mark Gatt's dog, Ritza Skylar, who has box four, is not sitting just behind him at the half way mark.''

Sketchy Huntsman and Venom will also be strongly fancied after drawing box one tonight .

Sketchy Huntsman, who has the rails in the wentworthpark.com.au Stakes, another 520m fifth grade. has been runner-up in two of four starts in town.

His six wins include three successes from box one and he showed good early zip to make the pace before finishing second to Venom at Wentworth Park last Wednesday.

Sketchy Huntsman had box three in that race and after carving out nippy initial sections of 5.47 and 14.05, was caught on the line and beaten a nose by Venom.

That greyhound had exited box seven and trailed Sketchy Huntsman to the home bend before finishing strongly down the outside.

Venom, who will come from box one in tonight's 520m Ladbrokes Easy Form fifth grade, has not had the inside trap in 20 starts but has a fine record from inside boxes.

The Tracey Kovacic-trained dog has won three of his four races from box two.
