Big Track Suits Crowdza

By Jeff Collerson
Trainer Stuart Hazlett is banking on his Goulburn Country Challenge winner Crowdza Dazzled's liking for big tracks to overcome the dog's lack of Temora experience in Friday night's first heat of the Flight To The Phoenix at the Riverina circuit.

Crowdza Dazzled, who has won three from five starts for Hazlett since coming from Victoria, will go into Friday's race without having seen the Temora track.

"He goes really well at Goulburn and Bulli and as Temora is a similar type of track I don't think going into the race without a trial there will be a problem,'' Hazlett said.

"Crowdza Dazzled ran a flying 24.42 to win the 440m Country Challenge last month and has thrived since.

"I have not trialled him but I never do that as his training consists of walking and the occasional slip up the straight at Goulburn.

"Taking Crowdza Dazzled to Temora will bring back memories because I have raced there only once, and that was 43 years ago with a dog called Wall Street.

"He did no good, but then again, he was nowhere near as smart as Crowdza Dazzled.''

Hardest for Crowdza Dazzled to beat could be the Jack ROY-trained Every Chance, who has won 20 races and has clocked a slick 25.98 at Temora.

"She is ideally positioned in box eight,'' ROY said.

"I also have Logical Chance in box seven in that heat and Willy's Chance in box one in the second heat.

"Willy's Chance is not without a hope as he is also ideally drawn.''

Blazing Lisa, who has box two in heat two of the Phoenix at Temora, goes into her race boasting the remarkable record of 20 wins from 39 starts.

Trained at Cowra by Pam Braddon, Blazing Lisa posted a blistering 25.62 when she finished third over 457m at Temora in August last year.

She had box eight in that race but Braddon's husband Paul said they were happy seeing Blazing Lisa in box two on Friday.

"Early in her career Blazing Lisa was showing terrific early speed but after she suffered a stress fracture of a hock she lost that dash out of the boxes,'' Paul Braddon said.

"I think it was more a case of her being down in confidence but she is going great again now and has regained the early brilliance which helped her win so many races at the beginning of her career.''

Aston Barak, who has won five races at Wentworth Park and been successful in 11 of his 22 starts, has box three in heat two.

Aston Barak has not raced at Temora but has been given a trial on the course and his presence makes the second heat appear the stronger of the two qualifying races.
