Angel Glow and Chase Me Honey In Middle Distance Clash

By Peter Davis
High-quality middle distance racing has been a constant in NSW for more than 12 months. Added prizemoney across all GRNSW’s venues were budgeted for - yet Dapto, Richmond, Bathurst, The Gardens and Dubbo have delivered the highest demand.

Dapto is where competition for weekly $5000 purses has been hottest and on Thursday, Jane Carruthers’ Angel Glow is in line for her fourth payday.

The former Victorian, a daughter of Being Good who was bred and raced by the Carruthers family, lines up from Box Six in Race Six – the second leg of the Quadrella.

On October 21, Angel Glow was untroubled to lead from Box Seven and score in a career-best 34.27s at the Showgrounds track.

And it’s that high-level effort that will be needed, given the genuine quality she tackles.

Mick Hardman’s Chase Me Honey is cut from ‘quality cloth’. She exits Box Seven and, prior to two unplaced results at Wentworth Park in Group 1 company, the daughter of Fernando Bale had won four in a row - including two at Dapto over 600m.

Her personal best time (34.34s) was from Box Two but she has proven adept from outside boxes. High speed is her calling card. In her Dapto 600m wins, she has registered first sections of 9.37s and 9.39s which is fractionally better than Angel Glow’s best (9.40s).

The start will be key and if both girls find clear air in the early stages, this will be a battle royale.

Confidence in wagering on greyhounds is at an all-time high and there has never been a better time to get involved in greyhound racing in NSW.

From November 1, staged increases in prizemoney commence with maiden winners to receive $1200 – up from $900, while placegetters also receive a proportionate 33% lift.

On December 1, Grade Five races beyond 421m across the state at TAB level lift from $1500 to $2000 to the winner, with placed runners benefitting on the same ratio.

Grade Four contests will be $2100 (from $1600) and Free For All (or top grade) will be $2200, also an increase of $500.
