Corrupted Headed For Win Number Four At Wagga

By Peter Davis
From inside boxes, youngster Corrupted has maintained an unbeaten record at Wagga and, on Friday, returns to the Turvey Park circuit for a fourth 400m assignment.

The son of My Redeemer made full use of the rails alley to win on debut at Wagga in a smart 22.90, getting away late to score by four lengths on August 27.

A slow start from box two proved critical next time (at Temora over 457m) but he quickly atoned with a gritty win at Wagga on September 17 in 22.99.

The win, while narrow margin-wise, was full of merit. He came from fifth in the middle stages to trail Nightbird Izmir into the straight and rallied to score by a half-length.

Seven days later, Nightbird Izmir again led but Corrupted, despite being crowded shortly after the start, stuck to his task to score in 23.19 – another impressive, focussed performance.

Now, for the first time, Corrupted must deal with a wide alley. He’s edging up in class yet his personal best (22.90) at the track is ‘top shelf’ and punters will be in his corner.

In an important development for NSW participants, Greyhound Racing NSW, this week, announced a 23 percent increase in prizemoney which will kick in, incrementally, from November 1.

“From November 1, prizemoney for provincial maiden events will increase $440 per race, while there will be an increase of $800 across all graded races for provincial events 440m and further from December 1,” GRNSW Chief Executive Tony Mestrov said.

The prizemoney lift equates to a collective increase of $55m for the five-year period of 2013-2017 against 2018-2022.

Last month, GRNSW announced that it would stage the TAB Million Dollar Chase twice in 2022, after the 2021 edition was cancelled due to Covid.

The first of 11 races at Wagga kicks off at 4.46pm.
