Bonnie A Chance At Wagga

By Peter Davis
Jack Roy’s talented youngster Bonnie’s Chance steps out for the second time at Wagga on Friday and the daughter of first season sire  Orson Allen is expected to turn heads – again.

On September 17, the 19 month-old black and white bitch impressed to the eye - and on the clock – in a 5 ¼ lengths maiden win at Wagga in a sharp 18.29s.

The rise from maiden company to open class can be problematic yet the professional manner in which Bonnie’s Chance scored suggests the Grade Five event is hers for the taking.

At her debut, Bonnie’s Chance roped in leader Janet’s Wish in the run to the first turn simply enough and ran through the line to score by a clear 5 ¼ lengths.

Her time which was only .02 outside the best time for the day registered by Free For All winner Oliver Izmir – a vastly experienced campaigner with 15 wins on his resume.

For Friday’s second start, Bonnie’s Chance has again drawn Box 3 and with moderate beginners Just Our Luck and Aqua Maisie to her inside, she is expected to soon take control and zip away.

The most likely to test Bonnie’s Chance is Songbird Izmir which resumes from a six-week break. She has an 18.43s win to her credit at Wagga over 320m but is far from a safe beginner.

Interestingly, the dam of Bonnie’s Chance, Extreme Chance, also has Logical Chance engaged at Wagga. He’s the winner of 10 races while litter brother Choice Chance boasts an impressive 14 wins from only 34 starts.

Choice Chance and Logical Chance are by super sire Barcia Bale while Bonnie’s Chance’s sire Orson Allen boasts the same maternal pedigree profile as Barcia Bale – that of superstar matron Princess Bale.

The first of 10 races at Wagga is at 7.05pm.
