Charmaine Roberts With A Strong Hand At Dubbo

By Peter Davis
The Dubbo Greyhound Club has gone from strength to strength in recent years and Dawson Park patrons will be rewarded in September with an additional $20,000 in stakes up for grabs courtesy of Ladbrokes.

In the final two meetings of the month, significant prize money is up for grabs at each of Dubbo’s four distances - with September 25 the red letter: seven finals scheduled, including the $8,100 to-the-winner Ladbrokes Red Dog Bonus (516m) while the Country Challenge Final gifts the victor $5,200.

Regulars Peter Carr, Pam and Paul Braddon, Amanda Ginn and partner Craig Tuntler along with Charmaine Roberts will be eyeing the calendar closely and Roberts, especially, will have a strong hand in the 516m features.

At Dubbo on Saturday, Roberts has five of her “Keeping” team engaged, with Oliver Keeping, Georgia Keeping and Payton Keeping clashing in Race Seven while well-related newcomers, Latrell Keeping and Derek Keeping, step out in Race Two.

The debutants are siblings by in-demand American-bred sire Superior Panama out of Shelley Keeping – the dam of the smart Squiggle Keeping (20 wins).

Of the ‘performed’ trio, Payton Keeping – despite having to contend with box four – looks particularly hard to beat.

Three starts back, she finished a close third to Memphis Keeping a fast 29.58s at Dubbo, and drops back from Free For All company. She’s missed a place only once in nine starts at Dubbo over 516m (four wins).

Oliver Keeping also boasts a very consistent record. He, too, has tackled the op grade at Dubbo in recent weeks, and having a solid record from wide boxes, will give a great sight.

The first of 10 races at Dubbo kicks off at 7.15pm.
