Ice Cream Story Ready For Dapto

By Peter Davis
David Smith’s Ice Cream Story has matched it with the best middle-distance performers in recent weeks and, at Dapto on Thursday, is drawn to post a much-deserved win.

A daughter of champion sire Fernando Bale, Ice Cream Story hails from a complete winning litter (of eight) and has always shown above average ability.

On debut, she won at Wentworth Park in 30.09s, securing a heat of the TAB Million Dollar Chase Maiden and, just two weeks later posted a slick 29.75s at the Glebe circuit.

Her Wentworth Park personal best was later lowered to a sharp 29.55s and she’s proven competitive at the elite level as a sprinter yet her future is now over 600m - and beyond.

On August 21, Ice Cream Story was very game when second to the smart Wicked Spartan at Dapto in 34.46s.

The runners-up result was her third in succession and, in recent outings, she’s taken on the likes of Zipping Kyrgios, Ebby Infrared, Good Odds Cash and Ebby Infrared.

While offering a cool $5000 to-the-winner, this GRNSW Middle Distance assignment represents a drop in class for Ice Cream Story and win 12 - at start 30 - beckons.

Ice Cream Story is one of four runners for Smith on the 10-event card.

In the opening race, Foxy One (Dyna Double One – Miss Foxy Lee) steps out for the first time – as does the well related Leapling for Danielle Swain.

Leapling (Fernando BaleZulu Power) is a younger sister to the brilliant Poppy Jack (16 wins) and Zulu Warlord (15 wins) and Zulu Eyes (13 wins).

Youngster Cooper’s Dream (Orson AllenCristalle Coco) makes his debut for Smith in Race 2, while Tarawi Ted looks for his fourth win at start seven in Race 6.

Tarawi Ted was untroubled to lead from box two at Dapto on August 21 and accounted for Skedaddle Jamie by 5 ¼ lengths in a career best 29.83s.

The first race at Dapto jumps at 7.19pm.
