Switch Heats The Highlight On Friday

By Peter Davis
Three Ladbrokes Switch Heats hold most interest on the 10-race card at Wagga on Friday.

The 400m contests are quite an open affair, and the box draw has complicated matters for many leading chances.

In the opening Heat, Aston Master is drawn to advantage. A son of emerging sire Aston Dee Bee, Aston Master returned to his best form with a sharp 23.16s win at Wagga on August 13.

While outside the black dog’s previous best at the track, the win was his first for nine weeks and a particularly strong effort after being cut out at the start (box four) and being near last at the 320m boxes. From box two, Aston Master is drawn to get all the breaks and win five (at start 30) beckons.

Heat two is wide open, yet the rails alley is a massive fillip for Lexicon.

At Wagga on August 6, she soon led from box three and, after being three lengths clear to the turn, just held Songbird Izmir at bay to score in 23.17s. Given another clean start, she can double up - yet Balt (box six) is sure to make matters interesting. He’s posted four of six wins at Wagga over 400m with a smart personal best of 22.97s.

At his Wagga debut on August 13, Ragin’ Finesse was untroubled to score in 23. 15s and he’s a major player in Heat three.

He, like Lexicon, led all the way last time to score by just on five lengths when a $41 chance. Double figure odds won’t be offered this time, and he’s got the pace to handle his wide alley (seven).

Wagga’s first race jumps at 7:09pm AEST.
