Mills Tipped For Another Big Day At Wagga

By Peter Davis
Cootamundra trainer Gregg Mills had a day out at Wagga on June 25, winning four races on the 10-event card - and he’s back on Thursday with five runners engaged in four races.

Last Friday, Bluejay Izmir won her maiden over 320m, Oliver Izmir snared the FFA in a smart 18.48 seconds, Genevieve Izmir was untroubled to win the GRNSW Grade Five Final in 18.55s on a rain-soaked track, while Lilac Izmir saluted over 400m.

All but Bluejay Izmir return on Thursday, while the consistent Jasmine Izmir and maiden Jabiru Izmir will be along for the 90km trip down the Olympic Highway.

Mills’ first runner for the day is Jabiru Izmir (Race 1, Box 7). The youngster was placed (when an $81 chance) for the first time at start four, at Wagga on June 25, when 3rd to kennelmate Bluejay Izmir over 320m and has further scope for improvement.

Jasmine Izmir (Race 2, Box 8) had not missed a place in six Wagga starts after a win at Temora over 330m on May 7, before her fourth to Dana Nana last Friday. She was only moderately away from box eight last time and was held wide for the duration by Ignatius Bale.

In Race 4, Genevieve Izmir (box 7) has a live chance to complete a hat-trick of wins. She withheld pressure at the first turn to lead over 320m on June 25 and came away to score in 18.55s – just .07s outside the best time of the night. Though placed only once in three starts at Wagga over the 400m trip, Genevieve Izmir is in career-best form and will take a power of beating.

And, in Race 7, Mills has Lilac Izmir (Box 1) and Oliver Izmir (Box 7). Lilac Izmir drops back in trip after winning last Friday in 23.31s over 400m, while Oliver Izmir seeks to add to his impressive Wagga resume but the task is by no means straight forward. Got A Group (Box 3) has not raced since a cracking 22.99s win over 400m at Wagga on June 4, and she boasts six wins from just 12 starts at the track over 320m. Proven Free For All performer Run Fast Maximus (Box 5) is in the mix. He was beaten on merit when third to Oliver Izmir and Galaxy Icon last week yet, as the winner of 11 races over 320m at the track, can never be underestimated.
