Good Odds Cash Boxed Well for First City Win

By Jeff Collerson
GOOD Odds Cash's prospects of scoring her first win from three Wentworth Park appearances depend on how she jumps in Tonight's sixth race, a 520m third and fourth grade.

That's the opinion of trainer Frank Hurst who conceded: "She is a hit or miss beginner because she just doesn't get down in the starting boxes.

"At her last start, over 472m at Bulli on June 15, Good Odds Cash won in 26 seconds flat and that is flying.

"And in a subsequent 400m trial there she ran a very quick 22.16 so she has a stack of ability, it's just that her box manners can let her down.''

Hurst is hoping being drawn on the rails may help "drag'' Good Odds Cash out of the boxes.

George Borg, whose bitch Jackpot Josie has box four, believes his greyhound's chances hinge on whether she can be the pacemaker.

"When she won in 29.98 at her most recent WP start, Jackpot Josie jumped in front from box two and led all the way,'' Borg said.

"She has always been very quick when she can get on the lure but generally I prefer her drawn wide.

"So from box four Jackpot Josie is going to have to get away smartly.''

While Borg is disappointed with Jackpot Josie's box four draw, he is even more concerned by his crack sprinter Romantic Storm getting box five in Tonight's 520m Free-For-All.

When Romantic Storm drew box one for only the second time in his career in a WP Free-For-All on June 18 he led throughout to win in a blinding 29.68.

"He is desperate for an inside box and since his Wenty win he has won a 324m race up the straight at Richmond from box two.

"But while Romantic Storm jumped fast when he won from box one at WP, he is not usually a fast beginner.

"This will be the eighth time in 27 races that Romantic Storm has drawn box five and he has won just once from that draw.

"Since his Richmond straight track win he went nicely in a slip up the straight at Appin last Saturday so he is certainly fit and well enough.

"But from box five I'm worried Romantic Storm might need to get a miracle run at the first turn.''

Ebby Infrared is chasing his ninth WP win in the Free-For-All and while he is not badly drawn in box three, trainer Michael Eberand believes he has to be in front at the first turn.

"He won in a fast 22.20 over 400m at Maitland last Thursday but because he is stepping up in distance I want to see Ebby Infrared in front at the winning post the first time around,'' Eberand said.

"When he won over 520m at Dapto on June 10 he came off a similar preparation and he paddled to the finish line.

"He is likely to be paddling in the straight again so he needs to be the pacemaker.''

Presence of Flying Ricciardo's sister IVY CONNIVING, a renowned "lid pinger'' in box two, could thwart Ebby Infrared's chances of making the pace.

Tonight's best bet should be the perfectly boxed Zipping Panama, who has drawn one in race 10, a 520m fifth grade.

The John Finn-trained bitch is noted for her strength at the finish and came from a distant fifth on the back straight to beat seven rivals by three lengths in a handy 30.14 at WP last Wednesday.

Zipping Panama had box three last week and will relish the move to box one along with facing just five opponents this time.
