Around The Boxes with Jeff Collerson

COOTAMUNDRA trainer Gregg Mills had his most successful night in 36 years when he landed four winners at Wagga on Friday.

Mills won a 400m race with Lilac Izmir and notched a 320m treble with Genevieve Izmir, Oliver Izmir and Bluejay Izmir.

"Lilac Izmir is probably the best of them, she is a good honest bitch and has done well considering she has returned to racing after suffering a dropped back muscle,'' Mills said.

"Bluejay Izmir, whelped in December, 2019, is from the first litter of my former good race bitch Raven Izmir, who won 22 of 42 races.''

Mills' dam line is remarkably successful as Raven Izmir's mother Montana Izmir won nine of 31 races, posting sizzling WP 520m figures of 29.62, 29.67 and 29.81 in early 2013.

WHEN Fabio Lass took out last Wednesday's $12,000 to the winner Bbet "The Squizzy'' final at Taree she continued an outstanding sequence of short course wins for her owner-trainer-breeder Helen HANSON.

The Taree success took Fabio Lass' record to 21 wins and 17 placings from 48 starts and lifted her earnings to over $51,000, not bad for a short distance greyhound who has not won in town.

Fabio Lass is no fluke either as her older half sister One For Tod had 28 wins and 27 placings from 86 races, amassing $41,000 prizemoney.

"I bred them both from my bitch Tigress Ally, who won 19 races and was the member of a litter which won 70 races,'' HANSON said.

"Tigress Ally was The Gardens 2015 Greyhound of the Year and has had three litters.

"Since her last litter, to Barcia Bale, she has been de-sexed and is now a family pet.

"My son TODD brought home my first greyhound 35 years ago, and we got off to a slow start because it wasn't much good.

"I only ever race dogs from my own dam line and breed a litter each year, whelping the pups and rearing them on my property at Nabiac.

"Fabio Lass has been a wonderful sprinter because she holds two track records.

"She broke the Taree 392m record when she clocked 22.07 in August last year and three months later established a new Wauchope 384m record when she won in 21.30.''
