Vale - Kevin Blythe

By Jeff Collerson
Western Sydney trainer Kevin Blythe has passed away after a lengthy battle with lung cancer, aged 64.

Blythe, who was a trainer for 35 years, won three races at Wentworth Park in 2015 with Dear Darcey, a group 1 finalist who was arguably his best greyhound, but also won a double at headquarters in 2019 with Gemala Girl.

He had bred Dear Darcey from his bitch Awesome Star who also produced Von Ryan, who won 12 races for Kevin between 2013 and 2015.

Family friend Jesse O'Bryan said: "Kevin raced many dogs in partnership with John Ayoub and they had a lot of success.

"Kevin was a wonderful person who was always quick to help out anyone involved in the sport.

"There were some touching moments towards the end of his life when Hawkesbury Hospital staff allowed us to bring a couple of Kevin's old retired greyhounds to visit him at his bedside.

"He will be greatly missed by so many people.''

GRNSW wishes to extend its sincere condolences to Kevin Blythe's family and friends.
