Winning Is What Life's All About

By Jeff Collerson
All About Life possesses the fastest Wentworth Park time of any runner in tonight's Ladbroke It Stakes and a perfect draw along with the potential to go slightly quicker makes her look the best bet on the card.

"She should win as long as I don't back her,'' quipped trainer Syd Swain, who is convinced he puts "the mock'' on his dogs when he supports them.

"All About Life (pictured) had box seven when she won in 30.10 at her most recent Wentworth Park start on May 19 but I am happy seeing her in box one this week,'' Swain said.

"She did finish down the course from the rails box at Bathurst five days later but I think she pulled out of it when she was crowded soon after the start.

"To make sure she was okay I gave her a short sprint at Lithgow on Saturday morning and she went exceptionally well.

"I have kept her on the lead since and she is nice and fresh so there is no reason why All About Life cannot shave a tenth of a second off her last start Wenty time.''

All About Life has a superb draw as Wasteman, drawn in box two, is among the widest runners in training.

Wasteman's trainer Michael Clayton looks to have strong claims with Culpable Model, who has box four in the GWIC Renewals Stakes.

Culpable Model is a litter sister to last Saturday night's brilliant all-the-way Wentworth Park winners Coast Model and Cruiser Model and like her siblings, possesses a good turn of early pace.

At her only Wentworth Park outing on May 12 Culpable Model went fast to lead around the first turn but was galloped on from behind and almost dragged down.

She showed plenty of tenacity to retain the lead and was still in front on the home bend.

But the early interference took its toll in the straight and Culpable Model wound up third behind Shoes Mistress and Chase Me Honey.

That pair have since proved the form with Shoes Mistress placed in each of two Wentworth Park starts and Chase Me Honey scoring a runaway win there on Saturday night.

"After her good Wenty run Culpable Model finished fourth at Nowra on May 23,'' trainer Michael Clayton said.

"But I wouldn't take any notice of that performance because she slipped on the mat in front of the starting boxes and went down on her belly.

"Once that happened Culpable Model had no chance but she pulled up all right and is ready to go again.''

Jonah Byrde, named after the main character in the hit Netflix series Ozark, gets his chance to open his Wentworth Park account from box one in tonight's GWIC Rego Stakes.

Jonah Byrde had been runner-up in two of six Wentworth Park appearances before clocking a sizzling 29.86 leading all the way from box one at Dapto on May 27.

"I wasn't surprised that Jonah Byrde went so fast at Dapto because he has always had the ability to do something like that,'' trainer Justin King said.

"That might sound silly considering it took him 11 starts before he won his maiden but he has clocked 29.94 while getting beaten at Wenty.

"Jonah Byrde's only two poor runs were at Bulli but apparently he isn't suited on a one-turn track like that, he prefers tighter courses like Wentworth Park and Dapto.

"He is a big lump of a dog, around 34kg, but it seems he goes a lot better around two turn tracks.''
