NSW National Sprint Final

NSW Sprint And Distance Champinships Update

By GRNSW
A change of date for the NSW National Sprint and Distance championships, will have an impact on some of the conditions surrounding eligibility for the event.

Originally both finals were scheduled for Wentworth Park on August 19, with nominations for the Sprint heats closing on August 10, and nominations for the Distance Final closing on August 16.

The NSW Finals of both events have now been brought forward a week to August 12, with nominations for the Sprint heats now closing on August 3, and nominations for the Distance Final now closing on August 9.

The impact owners and trainers will be around the condition which stipulates greyhounds must have been domiciled in NSW to qualify for the NSW National Sprint heats and NSW National Distance Final for 76 of the 150 days immediately preceding the close of nominations for the meetings.

As such, those cut-off dates for greyhounds to have been domiciled in NSW kennels, was now May 19 for the Sprint heats, and for the Distance event, May 25.

As announced at the time Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has again given added incentive for our top class sprinters to Chase their respective State Sprint Championship, by offering the winners a ticket straight into the semi-finals of the Million Dollar Chase.

In 2020 with the National Championship Final cancelled because of travel restrictions due to COVID-19, GRNSW offered each of the State Sprint winners, plus the winner of the New Zealand Sprint title, a direct path to the MDC semi-finals.

The National Finals will return in 2021 and be held at The Meadows on August 28, but GRNSW have decided to maintain their ‘bonus’ for State winners this year.
