Roman Won't Miss Tonight At Bulli

By Jeff Collerson
Roman Remiss has had a win and a luckless third in two recent short course races but is better suited over the 472m on tonight's Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Free-For-All at Bulli.

That's the opinion of trainer Mark Wilcox, who has won 17 of 35 NSW appearances with the greyhound.

"Owner Dean Wright bought Roman Remiss after he won a maiden at Hobart in March last year and he has been a good purchase,'' Wilcox said.

"Roman Remiss is not only a lovely dog to train but he has plenty of talent and if he jumps cleanly at Bulli he will be hard to beat.

"When he finished third over 400m at Bulli last week he was almost knocked to the ground when he collided with Hardaway Titan, who had broken down.

"Only reason Roman Remiss has raced over 350m at Goulburn and 400m at Bulli at his past two starts is that I have not been able to get a run with him in a longer race.

"He had box eight last week but is far better off in box two, the draw he has this time, and to me he looks boxed really good.''

Alice Unchained was caught in the last couple of strides when second in her maiden heat at Bulli last week but trainer Tom Rees believes she can be the improver in tonight's Ausure Regional Maiden final over 400m.

Where's Rocky ran down the previously unraced Alice Unchained in 22.45, last week's fastest heat, but he has drawn box six tonight while Alice Unchained goes from box three to eight.

"Before the box draw for the final I was hoping Alice Unchained would get either one or eight so I'm happy,'' trainer Tom Rees said.

"When she contested her heat she had not previously been out of the Bulli 400m boxes so she should be improved by that experience.

"Alice Unchained did not begin all that fast but I was pleased with the way she drove through to hit the front not long after the start.

"I pre-trained her and she has always shown ability, but she turned two before she could begin racing because she had a seasonal spell.''

When Aston Barak finished down the course at Wentworth Park on March 24, trainer Jason Fletcher told stewards he considered the dog better suited to roomier tracks than Wenty.

Aston Barak has since adapted to the tighter Wentworth Park circuit, winning a maiden there in a sizzling 29.74 on May 12, but he lived up to Fletcher's big track prediction with a great second to boom youngster Zipping Conway at his Bulli debut on May 18.

Aston Barak was beaten two lengths in near record 472m time of 25.95 so clocked top grade figures himself with a 26.10 runner-up performance.

Insance Fury looked totally out of his depth in a Wentworth Park Free-For-All on May 19 but ran a great race to beat all but Ebby Jet Power and returns to his favourite track in tonight's Bulli Friday Trials Stakes over 515m.

The George Micallef-trained dog went into the Wentworth Park race boasting six provincial wins and no city successes, while his five rivals had won 31 races at headquarters.

But after being third to the home turn, Insane Fury finished stoutly go under by two lengths behind Ebby Jet Power, who clocked a slick 29.95 in his 12th WP 520m win.

Insane Fury looks to have a perfect draw tonight as he has box one while Zambora Tan, box two, is usually a slow beginner who likes to use a bit of the track.
