Highway Number 29

By Jeff Collerson
Sunburnt Highway has not raced for a fortnight but is raring to go and fit enough to notch his 29th win at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Sunburnt Highway should start the meeting off on a bright note for favourite backers when he exits box one in the opening event, the 520m GBOTA Welcome To WP Masters Stakes.

"Although I'm not mad about box one at Wenty Sunburnt Highway has won nine of his 18 races from that inside draw and has been jumping really well lately,'' trainer Judith Richardson said.

"While he has not raced for a couple of weeks my husband John and I have our own track and Sunburnt Highway maintains his fitness there.

"He is given a slip up our straight track every two days, that's the way we have always trained him and nothing has changed in the fortnight he has been away from the races.

Angry Blizzard was a certainty beaten when second to Cumbria Jim at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and gets his chance to score his first city win in this week's Brook Group Stakes, 520m.

Angry Blizzard has been runner-up in two from five Wentworth Park outings but at his most recent start was desperately unlucky when beaten just under two lengths.

The winner's kennelmate Cumbria Dreaming appeared to clip the heels of another dog at the first turn and ran off the track, almost knocking Angry Blizzard over.

Trainer Nathan Goodwin said: "Angry Blizzard deserves to win a race in town, he is so close to winning at Wenty it's not funny.

"He is a super fast dog who has had plenty of issues with his racing mannerisms but he is in a good head space right now.

"I worked him up the straight on Wednesday and he went beautifully so all he needs from box three on Saturday is a touch of luck and he should be winning.''

Royal Emgrand's trainer Luke Azzopardi was disappointed with his dog's fifth to Ebby Jet Power at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night but believes his dog's box two draw in Saturday's 520m Where Else But Wenty Stakes is a big plus.

"He had box seven on Wednesday and while he did get a bit tangled up with another dog during the race, I must admit to being disappointed with his run,'' Azzopardi said.

"But although he had won twice from box eight and finished second from box seven in three races at WP before Wednesday, Royal Emgrand is desperate for the rails.

"He will go around other dogs but he loves the fence and I expect him to run a good race on Saturday.''

Jodie Lord trained another winning treble at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night and looks to have bright prospects on Saturday with Cop Magnet, a newcomer to city racing.

Cop Magnet has box six in the 520m Baking Trade Show @ Wenty Park Stakes and looks suitably positioned out wide.

In eight races on out-of-town courses Cop Magnet has recorded four wins and three seconds so should have too much dash for his rivals in what appears an average fifth grade event.

A slow start from box one didn't help Rev Up Rob's chances when he finished a close second at Wentworth Park last Saturday and the Michelle Sultana-trained dog should atone from his ideal box eight draw in Saturday's 520m Ladbroke It! Stakes.

At his Wentworth Park debut on May 8 Rev Up Rob began smartly from box six and led until half-way down the straight, racing wide, before finishing second to Aston Reward in a close finish.

After missing the jump last week Rev Up Rob was a distant third going through the catching pen and did well to rattle home to be runner-up, beaten a half length, by Convoluted.
