Class Drop Should See Ebby Winning Again

By Jeff Collerson
Ebby Jet Power chased home Zipping Kyrgios and Zulu Warlord in the group 3 Bob Payne Sprint final on May 8 so should only need a clean getaway to notch his 12th Wentworth Park win in tonight's easier thedogs.com.au Free-For-All.

Ebby Jet Power had box five when he trailed Zulu Warlord to the home bend in the Bob Payne before fading slightly but going under by just three-quarters of a length to the fast finishing Zipping Kyrgios.

"Since then he has been to Melbourne where he finished down the course in a heat of the group one Harrison Dawson at Sandown,'' Ebby Jet Power's trainer Michael Eberand said.

"I had intended to give him a few weeks off after last Thursday's Sandown race but he pulled up so well so I thought there was no point in keeping him in his kennel.

"Ebby Jet Power is well placed on the rails and I expect him to go well.''

Eberand, who has Dubrovnik in box five in tonight's Get Your Greyhound On Stakes, advised punters to forget that greyhound's distant third over 400m at Richmond on Sunday.

"Dubrovnik had box one at Richmond but got pushed into the rail and lost all chance,'' Eberand said.

"She has plenty of ability and box five is okay because I prefer her drawn away from the rails, she likes being positioned off the track.''

Dubrovnik's toughest rival looms as Cawbourne Canelo, who made most of the running when second, beaten three lengths, at her Wentworth Park debut last Saturday.

Cawbourne Canelo had clocked a brilliant 29.46 winning over 515m at LADBROKES GARDENS in January and trainer Steve Burgis believes she can open her city account tonight.

"When she won at The Gardens in January Cawbourne Canelo ran home in 11.94, exceptional because they rarely get under 12sec there.

"Before Saturday's race at Wenty she had seen the track only once, and that was in a trial, so she got a bit lost in last week's event.

"If Cawbourne Canelo gets on the lure she is awfully hard to run down and I think she is capable of improving on last Saturday's performance.

"Her owner Nathan Curry bought her for just $2000 and I have had her for only four starts.

"I have been training full time for just six years but learned the ropes working for leading trainers Don McMillan and Harry Hampson.

"Zulu Reign, who won at Wentworth Park in December, 2017, was my only city winner, although I've had a lot of seconds and thirds.''

Trainer Craig Chappelow believes a shift from middle and outside draws to box two can enable Manipulate to score her third Wentworth Park win in tonight's Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes.

Manipulate had box eight when a strong finishing second to the highly talented Black Chilli at Wentworth Park last Wednesday but Chappelow considers her far better suited from near the rails tonight.

"She had box one when she won her first race at Wentworth Park and at her only other start from an inside draw Manipulate won from box two.

"Her form is better than it looks because at one stage she had four successive races from middle boxes where the dogs each side of her knocked her down as soon as she jumped.

"Manipulate has been beginning well lately so if she begins cleanly she should be hard to beat.''

Zipping Moose has been beaten in five starts since winning the group one National Derby at Wentworth Park in late January but gets his chance to bounce back after drawing box one in tonight's Baking Trade Show Stakes.

Trainer Ray Magri said: "Zipping Moose has not been racing well but has been clocking smart times in trials so should still be capable of running 29.70 or 29.80 at Wentworth Park.''
