Vale - Kevin Scanlon

By Jeff Collerson
Kevin Scanlon, former National Sales Manager of De Bortoli Wines and a long time Richmond club committeeman, has passed away after a short illness, aged 88.

Mr Scanlon was a great friend of greyhound racing and it was through his influence that the family owned company, De Bortoli Wines, became a long term sponsor of our sport.

He also shared ownership of the Dick Riley-trained Brother Eddie, who won the Maitland Derby, run at CESSNOCK, in 1996, before taking out a semi-final of the 1997 Country Clubs Championship at Wentworth Park.

Brother Eddie's other owners were John Hartigan, chief executive officer and chairman of News Limited, Daily Telegraph sporting editor Tim Mullins, and yours truly, then that newspaper's greyhound wine and restaurant reviewer.

The funeral will be at Palmdale Memorial Park and Lawn Cemetery, Palmdale (near Ourimbah) on the Central Coast, with further details to be announced shortly.

GRNSW wishes to extend its sincere condolences to Mr Scanlon's widow Anne, and their extended family and friends.
