Kansas Comes To The City

By Jeff Collerson
Unbeaten boom youngster ZIPPING Kansas has "run the hands off the clock'' in a Wentworth Park 520m trial on the eve of making his city debut on Saturday night.

The Ray Magri-trained juvenile, who has won each of two Bulli 472m appearances in blazing times of 26.06 and 25.92, has box two in Saturday's Brook Group Stakes.

"When I trialled him he posted a quick first split of 5.40 but his overall time was even more impressive, it was absolutely sensational,'' trainer Magri said.

ZIPPING Kansas is a member of an outstanding litter NSW's most successful breeders Marty and Fiona Hallinan have obtained from their good race bitch ZIPPING Katelyn, who won a 715m Newcastle Cup at LADBROKES GARDENS.

ZIPPING Conway, a litter brother and kennelmate of ZIPPING Kansas, won on debut over 400m at Bulli on Tuesday in a slick 22.25 while their sister ZIPPING Virginia, trained by John Finn, finished brilliantly to win a 520m Wentworth Park Maiden on May 5.

"ZIPPING Conway broke in fastest of the litter, he clocked 17.69 over 307m at Bathurst during his education phase,'' owner-breeder Marty Hallinan said.

"But he had a little setback early in his career so is not quite as forward as ZIPPING Kansas.''

ZIPPING Kansas' dashing Wentworth Park trial has dispelled any concerns about the 21 months old youngster's ability to handle Wentworth Park or to see out a strong 520m.

Rev Up Rob, who led until the final couple of bounds when second at his first Wentworth Park appearance last Saturday, should make amends after drawing box one in this week's Best Pie And Pastie Comp @ WP Stakes.

Last week Rev Up Rob showed good speed to make the pace from box six and went under by only a half length to the vastly more experienced Aston Reward in 29.96.

Michelle Sultana, Rev Up Rob's trainer, said: "I have only had the dog for a month so don't know a lot about him, but his owner was rapt in the way he went for me last Saturday.

"While Rev Up Rob had been around Wentworth Park before last week it was only for a post-to-post hand-slip so he had not been out of the starting boxes.

"He used a bit of the track last Saturday but he should handle box one okay if he steps away like he did in his first Wentworth Park start.''

Bones McCoy recorded a sizzling 29.62 winning at his Wentworth Park debut on May 1 and trainer Chrystal Hensing believes he can reproduce that form in Saturday's Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes.

On the strength of his May 1 performance, Bones McCoy was sent out a raging hot $1.90 favourite from box seven last Saturday but the dog wound up fifth to IVY CONNIVING.

Bones McCoy appeared to stumble soon after the start but trainer Chrystal Hensing pointed out: "The greyhound in box eight ankle tapped my dog as they jumped, that's what cost him his chance.

"If that had not happened Bones McCoy would have gone as good as he did the week before and I'm very happy seeing him in box eight on Saturday.''

One Smart One, who scored a tenacious first-up Wentworth Park win on Wednesday night, should account for similar fifth grade opposition in Saturday's Baking Trade Show @ Wenty Park Stakes.

One Smart One, who went into Wednesday's race with four wins from six provincial races, had reportedly trialled 29.80 at Wentworth Park before making his race debut there and the dog won by a head in 30.01.

After being third to the back straight, One Smart One surged into second spot on the home turn before overhauling PICKACHU Wave to win by a head.

The JODIE Lord-trained One Smart One had box eight on Wednesday but raced in the centre of the track so seems suitably positioned in box five on Saturday.

Sizzle Fly was never out of trouble from box five at Wentworth Park last Saturday and a move to box one gives the Andrew Bell-trained speedster a second-to-none chance in this week's Where Else But Wenty Stakes.

This week Sizzle Fly will wear the red jacket and after winning two from three races out of box one, should make full use of the inside draw by leading from start to finish.
