Vale Margaret Lake

By Jeff Collerson
MARGARET Lake, the mother of prominent trainer Michelle Shambler and a successful trainer in her own right, has passed away aged 79.

"It was because of mum I became a trainer,'' Shambler said.

"Mum raced greyhounds for 30 years and like many trainers started off with a giveaway.

"As a kid I recall going out to MUDGEE to collect this giveaway, called Speedy Samos.

"But there was no fairytale ending to that as Speedy Samos did not win a race, but through training him she learned so much and had a lot of success a dog called John's Regret.

"She purchased him and he became a Richmond specialist but unfortunately when he was about to have his first race on the roomy Harold Park track, which would have suited him, he broke a hock.''

GRNSW wishes to extend its sincere condolences to Michelle Shambler and her family on the loss of her mother.
