Simply Siblings Set To Score

By Jeff Collerson
Peter Rodgers has won nine Wentworth Park races with litter brother and sister Simply Smudge and Simply Houdini and will be looking to extend the family success tonight with their siblings Simply Snip and Simply Spot.

The Freemans Reach trainer's quartet are members of a litter whelped by his former smart Wentworth Park winner Kall Her Karisma to Fernando Bale in May, 2018.

Simply Snip, who has box one in tonight's 520m Ladbrokes Switch Stakes, won her maiden race at Wentworth Park three months ago while her brother Simply Spot, who will also wear the red rug in the 520m Ladbrokes Back Yourself Stakes, has been lightly raced and is making his debut at headquarters.

"Simply Snip will be having her first 520m race since returning after a succession of small but niggling injuries,'' Rodgers said.

"But she is trialling well and is suitably drawn so I expect her to be very competitive.

"Simply Spot is a bit of a wide runner who has done little racing because he broke a stopper bone and was sidelined for seven months.

"He has never had a 520m test but went extra well when I gave him a post-to-post hand-slip at Wentworth Park recently.

"Simply Spot clocked 24.12 which is really quick.''

Simply Spot's toughest rival looms as the JODIE Lord-trained Cawbourne Claw, who overcame a slow start to win his maiden race at Wentworth Park last Wednesday in a nippy 30.03.

"Cawbourne Claw has no early pace but is very strong and being in a field of six will suit him,'' Lord said.

"In a small field like this he should be able to put himself in a position close enough to be able to round up the leaders and win.

"I think Cawbourne Claw and his litter sister Cawbourne Turvey will develop into good middle or long distance performers as they mature.''

Cawbourne Turvey has box one in tonight's 520m Bakers Association of Australia Stakes and Lord likes her prospects.

"This is the first time Cawbourne Turvey has drawn a good box at Wenty and at this stage of her career she can sprint well enough to win a 520m fifth grade.

"When she finished second, after drawing box six on April 14, she clocked 29.94.''

Lord could land a treble tonight as her consistent sprinter SERIOUS Object, a winner of nine from 17 appearances, has box one in the 520m Get Your Greyhound On Stakes.

SERIOUS Object was sent out a heavily backed $1.95 favourite when second, beaten just under a length, by Sizzle Fly at Wentworth Park last week.

"I wasn't disappointed with that run as it was his first 520m race since January 23 because he has had a lot of injuries,'' Lord said.

"SERIOUS Object is perfectly drawn.''

Springview Magic, the unlucky runner in the group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden final at Wentworth Park March 31, resumes from box one in tonight's NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden.

After being placed in his heat and semi-final of the group 3 race Springview Magic was a well supported $3.30 chance in the final but was badly hampered in the early stages.

He showed great mid-race speed to be third on the back straight before finishing fourth, beaten six lengths by subsequent Nowra Puppy Classic winner Bandit Ned.

"Because he has not raced for a month Springview Magic could be under-done but he is going terrific,'' trainer Michael Hardman said.

"He slipped well at Goulburn recently and last week I slipped him from the catching pen at Wenty and he ran 14.90.

"It takes a smart dog to break 15 in a slip from the pen.

"His sister Analysing, who has box eight against Cawbourne Turvey, recorded 15.02 in an identical slip last week so she is also in with a chance.''
