Jack's Attack On The New Sensation

By Jeff Collerson
Jack Smith, who landed a winning treble with Irinka Molly, Dip It In and Daisy's Boy at Wentworth Park on Wednesday, will deal a strong hand in next Wednesday night's group 3 New Sensation heats at headquarters.

Smith will start Jungle Deuce, the star of his team, Dip It In, Irinka Riley and probably Daisy's Boy.

"Dip It In's fastest time in his three previous Wentworth Park wins had been 29.86 but he got down to 29.76 on Wednesday,'' Smith said.

"Reason he is going quicker is because he seems to have finally worked out the start.

"In his first few races at Wenty Dip It In missed the kick and had to use his early pace to reach the lead, but in his past couple of runs he has come forward and got down low when placed into the boxes.

"I will leave a decision on whether Daisy's Boy goes around to his owners.

"While he is not as quick as Dip It In, Jungle Deuce or Irinka Riley, he is improving and owners usually like to see their dogs go around in these major races.''

Dip It In's owner BrIan Jaggers has had a dream introduction to greyhound racing, being part-owner of Solar Sky, who won 14 races in 2019 and last year.

"I bought Dip It In as a 10 week old puppy from his Hunter Valley breeder Ian Graham on advice from friends,'' Jaggers said.

"They reckoned a litter Ian's bitch Pippy Dippy had whelped to Fernando Bale were particularly well bred so I bought the dark brindle dog that is Dip It In.

"Ian retained a pup which races as Bonnie's Reward, and she has won three from six starts, while Tony Mason has a smart bitch from the litter called Hello Chloe.''

Most trainers would be delighted at seeing their greyhound moving from box five to box one at a redrawn meeting, but that's not the case with Michael Hardman as he assesses the chances of his Bathurst Cup winner Zulu Warlord in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg heats.

"Zulu Warlord likes to run in the middle of the track and I was pleased as punch when he drew box five in last week's heats which were washed out,'' Hardman said.

"When new nominations were called for and the heats were re-drawn, Zulu Warlord came up with box one in heat two.

"Good beginners like him have a habit of missing the jump from the inside at Wenty and on Saturday Zulu Warlord will need to get away quickly, especially with Weblec Pearl, who is capable of pinging the lids, is in box two.''

Zulu Warlord is unbeaten in three races from box five but at his only start from box one the dog finished third at Gosford.

Incapacitated is another dog who did not fare well in the re-scheduled Easter Egg heats but trainer Justin King is not too concerned.

"He had a great draw near the rails when the heats were programmed for last Saturday but has come up with box eight in this week's fourth heat,'' King said.

"But this does not appear to be one of the tougher heats and Incapacitated can handle box eight.

"He will hold his line from the boxes to the first turn and trialled very well for me at Goulburn on Monday, covering the 440m in 24.89, which was fastest of the day.''

Incapacitated and the Peter LagogIane-trained Barcia Blue Boy, who has box six in heat eight of the Egg on Saturday, were the only Easter Egg candidates to break 25sec in several Goulburn trials.

But while his time was a tick over 25, Zipping Kyrgios posted clearly the best run home time at Goulburn according to Melinda Finn, whose husband John trains the greyhound.

Zipping Kyrgios has box five in heat 10 on Saturday, but Melinda Finn said: "If he ever happened to jump in front there is not a dog racing I would be afraid of.''
