GRNSW Fifth Grade Final An Open Event

By Peter Davis
GRNSW’s Provincial Grade Five series has injected significant prizemoney into the 500m distance category across the State and, at Wagga on Friday, another $5000 is up for grabs.

Heats were conducted on March 12 with the vastly experienced Tiggerlong Ginga (30.28) qualifying quickest while Third Exit returned to best form to win the second heat in 30.58.

The box draw has complicated the series decider with Tiggerlong Ginga must again contend with box six. His smart heat win was the result of a very clean start and he withheld Tommy Town's persistence to score by 1 ¼ lengths.

Tommy Town was tested for the first time at 525m in his heat and has scope for improvement – he exits box three this time and is a major player while Peter Sims’ pair Chance Your Arm and Impress us certainly have the talent to get the job done.

Local mentor Peter Dooner has three engaged over 320m with the smart Got A Jimmy and Got A Group appearing very hard to beat.

Got A Jimmy is a three-time winner in slick times over 400m at Wagga. On March 5, he was hampered on three occasions at Wagga and finished at the tail in a slick 22.76 secs.

From box 1 over 320m, Got A Jimmy can make his own luck and secure his fourth win at start seven.

In race five, Got A Group has a decided edge on her rivals ‘on the clock’. On March 12, Got A Group saluted in a fast 18.15 secs – that PB a clear .32 secs or just on five lengths quicker than the next best offering of Galaxy Icon (18.47 secs).

She’s drawn a little awkwardly (box four) yet Got A Group appeals as the best bet on the 10-race program.
