Here Comes The Queenslanders

By Jeff Collerson
Crack Queenslander Farmor Beach and five of his kennelmates will race for the first time at Wentworth Park on Saturday night as a "dress rehearsal'' for possible appearances in the group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg.

Trainer Wayne Scott has Libby's Girl starting from box four in race four, Farmor Watchers (box five, race five), Transgenic (box two, race six) and in race nine, the 520m Free-For-All, he will be represented by Mayoress (box two), Farmor Beach (six) and Townson Beach (seven).

"None of them have trialled at Wentworth Park, it is a 12 to 13 hours drive from our kennels to Wenty so my son Steve and I will be using Saturday night to gauge their suitability to contest the Easter Egg heats on March 20,'' Scott said.

"They can all run, otherwise we wouldn't be bringing them to Sydney, but Farmor Beach is clearly the quickest.

"He won the Vince Curry Memorial and the Ipswich Cup and has won in near record time of 29.59 at Albion Park.

"Like most of these dogs he is a hit or miss beginner but while he has drawn six on Saturday, having an empty box on his left will be a big help.

"Apparently there is a theory that greyhounds which race well at Ipswich are suited to Wentworth Park and if that's correct that is great news because Farmor Beach is unbeaten in five races at Ipswich.''

Farmor Beach won't have an easy task at his Wentworth Park debut because he is up against Geoff Grimwood's foolproof beginner Aston Zodiac, in box three, and Owen Langley's warrior Poacher, drawn in four.

Poacher, who has won 14 and been placed in 19 of 48 Wentworth Park starts, is resuming after a month's break caused when he came off second best in an altercation with a kennelmate.

"He is fine again and has just trialled 22.60 over 400m at Richmond, so there is nothing wrong with him,'' Langley said.

"Poacher will be having his first 520m race since February 3 so he could be a shade under-done but he needs to get back to Wenty to get his Easter Egg campaign under way.''

Transgenic, Scott's entry in the 520m Get Your Name Here Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, is well boxed in two according to the Queensland trainer.

"She can get out of a box and rails well,'' Scott said.

But Redshift Seven, who has drawn one and was unlucky when fourth at Wentworth Park on February 20 and 27, is boxed to win.

In Saturday's 720m fifth grade Enjoy A Night Out At WP stakes, Zipping Niseko will be a hot favourite to lead throughout at her long-distance debut.

Trainer Luke Adams has given Zipping Niseko, who has won in a fast 29.80 over 520m at Wentworth Park, a thorough preparation for her initial staying test.

Zipping Niseko has had four wins and a second in five races over 600m at Dapto and 618m at Richmond, with a blistering 34.40 performance on the south coast track a stand-out.

But if there is a chink in Zipping Niseko's stamina the up-and-coming Our Bro Hazza could be the testing material.

Our Bro Hazza tackled 720m for the first time at Wentworth Park last Saturday and finished fast to be runner-up to In Your Time, one of his rivals on Saturday night.

"Our Bro Hazza had box four last week and is better positioned in box two on Saturday,'' trainer Matt Duncan said.

"Because you never know if dogs can run 720m until they go over that distance, I wasn't certain Our Bro Hazza could stay.

"But he showed last Saturday that he can because he got to the line strongly despite being held up a bit when he was making his run.

"What was pleasing was that the race did not flatten him at all, he was as fresh as a daisy the next morning and he has since gone well in a trial up the straight.

"Zipping Niseko, and In Your Time, who beat us last week, will be hard to toss but Our Bro Hazza should run a big race.''
