Outside To In Suits Deep Cover

By Jeff Collerson
Moving from box seven last Wednesday to box one and the conditioning derived from last week's race could put Deep Cover back into the Wentworth Park winner's circle Tonight.

The Jack Tatian-trained dog, who has had two wins and a third from four Wentworth Park outings, will wear the red rug in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Deep Cover was second to the home turn but faded slightly in the straight when third to New Shepard in a handy 30.18 in a similar race last week.

"He probably needed the run last Wednesday because Deep Cover hurt his hip when he won at Wenty on January 6,'' Tatian said.

"Because of that he needed 10 days off and the only work he had before last Wednesday was a 400m race at Bulli and a slip up the straight at Appin.

"Those hit-outs had him fit enough but over 520m last week he could have still been short of a run.

"He has box one this week and is a lot better off than he was from his wide draw last Wednesday.''

There is not a more valuable potential brood bitch than Go Baby Go and she seems keen to become a mother after having been in season twice within the past 12 months.

Go Baby Go is a litter sister to last Friday's Bathurst Gold Cup winner Zulu Warlord and to Poppy Jack, who has won 15 of 24 starts.

"She is certainly bred in the purple because she descends from the great Paua To Burn,'' trainer Garry Edwards said.

Go Baby Go, who has box two in Tonight's Men Of League Foundation Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade, turns three in May but has had just 16 races.

Usually a bold front-runner Go Baby Go has had six wins and seven placings but missed the jump when second to Four Five in a slick 29.94 last Wednesday at Wentworth Park.

After her slow getaway Go Baby Go secured a rails run when there was scrimmaging coming out of the first turn but after being second at the half-way mark went down by four lengths.

"From box two Go Baby Go needs to begin cleanly because while she does normally get away a lot better than she did last week, she tends to step to the right when she jumps,'' Garry Edwards said.

"That's why I probably prefer her in a middle box but although she has been lightly raced due to seasonal conditions, she is trialling as well as ever.

"Her best Wentworth Park time is 29.91 but I believe Go Baby Go is capable of getting down to 29.80 with a clear run on a fast track at Wentworth Park.''

Zipping Pearson finished sixth, five lengths behind Go Baby Go last week, but she still looms as her main danger Tonight.

Going through the catching pen last Wednesday Zipping Pearson was in third position and ahead of Go Baby Go but lost all chance when the greyhound in second position veered off the track sharply and collided with her.

Zipping Pearson all but fell in that incident and was not disgraced in winding up nine lengths from the winner.

The John Finn-trained bitch has box six Tonight but posted her personal best Wentworth Park figures of 29.89 when she led throughout from that draw on January 30.

Tonight's best value bet should be the well drawn Tiger Holly, a wide runner who has box seven in the Happy Lunar New Year Stakes, a 720m mixed grade event.

At her only Wentworth Park outing on December 23 Tiger Holly was sent out a heavily backed $2.25 favourite from box one but after bungling the start and showing good early speed, she ran sharply off the track on the first corner.

That ruined her chances and she showed her liking for an outside alley with a strong finishing win from box seven over 618m at Richmond on January 20.
