Zipping Truvy Will Relish Drop In Grade

By Jeff Collerson
Zipping Truvy has spent most of her 29 starts in top class company so should relish dropping to fifth grade in Saturday night's 720m Men Of League Foundation Stakes at Wentworth Park.

Zipping Truvy had box two when a fast finishing second, a head behind hot favourite Stanley Road, in the group 2 GBOTA Summer Distance Plate over the same distance at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

"She has hardly ever contested a graded race because she has contested group, listed or free-for-all events most of her life,'' trainer Rob Tyler said.

"After her third start Zipping Truvy was in the Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic and while she has box seven on Saturday I reckon she could get a soft run with Esther's Diva and Sniffy, drawn inside her, likely to show early pace and get out of her way.''

Tyler has only a dozen greyhounds in training but has enjoyed a great beginning to 2021, being placed in group finals with Zipping Truvy and Rowdy Roddy.

He won at Wentworth Park last Saturday with new acquisition Unlawful Assault, who led throughout from box one to moves to box eight in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Back Yourself Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"Last Saturday I thought Unlawful Assault was unsuitably drawn in box one because from what I've seen of him he looked like he wanted a wide draw.

"He got room to move early last week when the dog in box two got wide and while I'm happy with having Unlawful Assault in box eight on Saturday, I'm unsure of whether he has enough early pace to utilise it.

"Jack Smith's Jungle Deuce has box seven and he has shown himself to be a very talented young dog.''

Jungle Deuce staged a big performance to win last Saturday's Ladbrokes Switch Maiden final at Wentworth Park in 30.31, flashing home after being slowly away and midfield at the half-way mark.

The dog had won his heat from box two in 30.09 and drew two again last week so is untried from a wide draw.

"I don't know how he will handle box seven, I guess we'll find out on Saturday,'' a candid Jack Smith said.

"Jungle Deuce can't be the pacemaker so I'm just hoping he can handle himself in a field.''

Smith has strong claims of winning Saturday night's Congratulations Tim Cahill AO Stakes with Dip It In (box six) and Irinka Riley (box two) in the Live & Free Stakes.

"I considered entering Dip It In for Monday's Bathurst Cup heats but doubt he has the pace to lead a good field around a track like that, which suits front-runners.

"The Wenty race looks winnable for him though.

"Irinka Riley bungled the start completely when he finished second, from box eight, behind his kennelmate Jungle Deuce last Saturday and his box manners have been letting him down badly.

"Irinka Riley gets too excited, too worked up, but he is drawn nicely on Saturday and gets his chance if he can come out with them.''

Kurios Motion ran the race of her life when beaten a half length by Ebby Infrared in last Saturday's Paws Of Thunder consolation final at WP and drops to fifth grade in Saturday's Punters HQ Stakes.

Kurios Motion had box seven last week and although she tends to use a bit of the track, she won from box one in a personal best 29.84 at Wentworth Park on December 23 before wearing the red rug to victory again in a slick 29.90 on January 6.
