Let's See If Mark's Decision Pays Off

By Jeff Collerson
Trainer Mark Davidson's decision to "dodge'' up-and-coming stayers Stanley Road and Prim And Proper at Wentworth Park last Saturday night should pay dividends with his bitch Let's See expected to win Tonight's Where Else But Wenty Stakes.

Let's See is ideally positioned in box one and with wide runners in boxes two, four, six, seven and eight it is hard to imagine Davidson's greyhound not being able to secure a clear run in the 720m fifth grade.

Let's See won in a nippy 42.32 from an unsuitable box eight draw over 720m at Wentworth Park on September 23 and was far from disgraced when a fading fourth to triple big race winner Here's Tears in top grade at headquarters on December 19.

"I wasn't keen for Let's See to meet Stanley Road and Prim And Proper at Wentworth Park last Saturday so decided to wait for this much easier race,'' Davidson said.

"Let's See was topped off nicely for Tonight's race with a 600m win at LADBROKES GARDENS on Saturday and came through that run beautifully.

"She hasn't had a clear passage in each of her past three races but should get it this time because box one is where she wants to be.

"I am preparing her for the group 2 Summer Distance Plate at Wentworth Park on January 16 and would also like to take her to Albion Park for a long-distance race in the New Year.''

Promising Northern Rivers youngsters CASH Stack and CASH-view">CASH View make their first appearances at headquarters Tonight, launching their campaigns for heats of the Group 1 Ladbrokes National Derby at Wentworth Park on January 15.

CASH Stack has box three in race four, a 520m fifth grade, while his litter brother and kennelmate CASH-view">CASH View has drawn six in another 520m fifth grade, race five.

"I brought them to Wenty when they were unraced but the trials they had that night did not give me much of a guide because there was a problem with the lure,'' trainer Robert Cooke said.

"CASH View has a reputation of being the better of the pair and while he is a superior race dog, Cash Stack goes faster in solo trials.

"They both made the final of the Queensland Derby at Albion Park on December 10 and I thought CASH View was a bit stiff not to win it.

"He had previously won the Dave Brett Memorial at Albion Park and while he has box six at Wenty I don't think the draw will worry him.

"CASH View is not a brilliant box dog but can show great speed once he hits the ground.''

CASH Stack (box three) is in the easier race Tonight but will need to be on his game to defeat the John Finn-trained Zipping Kyrgios, who has box five.

Finn's greyhound finished third when a $1.55 favourite at Bulli at his most recent race on December 22 but Finn's wife Melinda is not worried about that defeat.

"Everyone wanted to back Zipping Kyrgios that night because he had box one but he is not really suited from the rails, he prefers being drawn in the middle or out wide,'' she said.

CASH View looks hard to beat despite the opposition of Zipping Moose, a winner of three from four Wentworth Park starts in box one, and the front-running Me Me Mia, who has two and led throughout at Wenty last Wednesday.

Me Me Mia had box seven when she won in a slick 30.06 last week but is a good railer and from her inside draw could "crowd'' Zipping Moose in the charge to the first bend.

Lenny Cortez looks certain to be rounding the first corner in front and looks Tonight's best value bet after drawing box one in the fourth and fifth grade Roosters Traffic Control Stakes, 520m.

Lenny Cortez is a chancy beginner but possesses dazzling "burn'' once the boxes open and has made the pace before recording four seconds and a third from five Wentworth Park starts.

Tonight's opposition is the weakest the JODIE Lord-trained speedster has met at Wentworth Park and he should break through for a well earned win.
