Tears To Flow At Newcastle On Friday

By Jeff Collerson
Here's Tears, who ran his rivals off their legs from box one with a runaway group 1 Sydney Cup win at Wentworth Park in October, exits the same draw in tomorrow's (Friday) second heat of the group 3 Newcastle Cup.

A younger brother of champion stayer Tornado Tears, Here's Tears is trained in Victoria by Robert Britton but is raced by his NSW central coast breeder Michael Ivers.

"Here's Tears will be sent up to Michael Ivers' NSW trainer Chris Perry today,'' Britton said.

"Although he has not raced OVER the 715m Newcastle Cup course at The Gardens, Here's Tears did win a couple of 600m races there before he came down to Victoria so he knows the track.

"I really like him from box one so Friday's draw is perfect.''

Here's Tears shaved .01sec off the mighty Miata's record when he won in 41.16 .OVER 715m at Sandown on January 30.

Supersound clocked a near record 20.45 in his all-the-way win in Saturday's Ladbrokes Red Dog Puppy Classic at Nowra but Ross Burton, whose wife Marie trains the dog, insists Opinions, a litter brother and kennelmate, is equally talented.

Although Supersound's Classic time was just .21sec outside the track record set by the Darren Sultana trained Hesa Felon in May, 2009, Ross Burton said: "Opinions, which Marie also trains, is just as fast.

"Opinions also qualified for the Puppy Classic final but took a tumble.

"Only reason he isn't yet having the success of Supersound is that while that dog is beginning quickly, Opinions is sitting down in the boxes.

"When he is placed into the boxes he plonks himself down so is obviously not going to jump well when he is doing that.

"We are working on trying to break him out of that habit.''

Supersound has won six of 19 starts while Opinions has been successful in three from 18 appearances.

They are raced by Carolyn Knox from South West Rocks, near Coffs Harbour.

A fast short course trial at Gosford caused trainer Raelee Shearer to postpone plans to step PSYCHO SONIC up in distance and the dog responded with a powerful win OVER 388m at Gosford on Tuesday.

When PSYCHO SONIC was a finalist in the recent 400m Maitland Future Stars Shearer declared the dog would be better OVER a longer trip and she planned to get him ready for 520m racing.

"But when I trialled him OVER 388m at Gosford recently he clocked the smart time of 22.29 so after that I had to nominate him for a race OVER that distance there and he won on Tuesday,'' Shearer said.

"I'm now tossing up whether to enter him for a 450m race or Maitland or to concentrate on getting him OVER 500m or more.''
