Raceday officials and broadcasters at Dubbo’s greyhound track will work in a much safer and modern environment after funding for a new tower was announced on Thursday.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders joined Dubbo Greyhound Racing Club president Shayne Stiff and Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) chief executive Tony Mestrov at the announcement of the $400,000 project.
“In recent years Dubbo Greyhound Racing Club has undergone an amazing transformation from non-TAB racing through to TAB racing, from only day racing through to having the lighting for night racing, and the next step is to upgrade the judge’s tower,” Mr Saunders said.
“The club is racing more frequently than it ever has before but it’s fair to say the facilities for the raceday staff and the racecaller could be improved, so we’re glad to be working with GRNSW to help make that happen.”
For GRNSW, the project is a vital one to help one of the fast-growing clubs in the state.
“We are delighted to be able to continue support of our regional clubs with another significant project being announced at Dubbo,” Mr Mestrov said.
“When the works are completed, the new tower will be a state of the art facility to house stewards, the race caller, the judge and vision provider, and be a major benefit to the running of race meetings.
“The Dubbo club continues to be one of our most progressive, hard-working and popular regional clubs, and we have recently rewarded these efforts with the expansion of their racing program.
“I would like to also take this opportunity to thank the Minister, the Hon. Kevin Anderson, and the local member, Dugald Saunders for their continued unwavering support of greyhound racing in the Dubbo region.”
