Wenty Can Wait For Zipping Kyrgios

By Jeff Collerson
Maitland Future Stars winner ZIPPING Kyrgios is ready to win at Wentworth Park but will instead return to the Hunter Valley track for another 400m race on Monday.

"He has trialled well over 520m at Wentworth Park so has no trouble with that distance but we are bringing him along steadily,'' Melinda Finn, whose husband John trains the son of Aussie Infrared and ZIPPING Lilly said.

"Monday's Ladbrokes Odds Boost heats at Maitland are for greyhounds which have one to three wins so this looks ideal for ZIPPING Kyrgios.''

ZIPPING Kyrgios is the first Marty and Fiona Hallinan-owned greyhound to join the highly successful Finn kennels.

"ZIPPING Kyrgios and the rest of the litter were educated in Victoria and were set to be trained there,'' Melinda Finn said.

"But there was a change of plans and Marty brought the pups back to NSW, sharing them out with us and with Robbie Tyler.''

The promising ZIPPING Lockett, a litter brother to ZIPPING Kyrgios, made his debut for Tyler in a 307m race at Bathurst on October 5 but found trouble and finished fifth.

ZIPPING Kyrgios was a heavily backed $2.60 chance when an unlucky fourth on debut in a 520m maiden at Wentworth Park on October 7 before winning his 400m Maitland Future Stars heat in a slick 22.49 on October 19.

He slashed that time to a sizzling 22.29 in his Future Stars final win last Monday.

Nangar Gold, who broke the Lithgow 506m record in her Golden Muzzle heat win last Saturday, has drawn awkwardly in box four in Saturday's $5000 to the winner final of the 506m non-TAB event.

Still Blue, one of two finalists for local trainer Paul Roach, has drawn box eight and is expected to be the danger to the Dennis Barnes-trained Nangar Gold.

Still Blue finished third to Tony Messina's speedy Cheeky Lass in her heat but was badly checked in the early stages and had won two of her previous three Wentworth Park starts in 29.82 and 29.92sec.

Box draw for the Golden Muzzle is 1 Cheeky Lass 2 Tennant 3 Fernando Porche 4 Nangar Gold 5 Two One Parking 6 Andy's Trinity 7 Do You Dig 8 Still Blue with reserves Go Go Fernando and Mercator Closer.

Rock Or Bust, sidelined with an injured tibia for six weeks, made an impressive return to racing in an unsuitable 330m event at Richmond on Wednesday.

The CHRIS Carl-trained bitch had won two of three WP 520m outings before being injured and will be back in action at headquarters shortly.

Quantity is down but quality is high for tonight's GRNSW Middle Distance Series 600m event at Dapto.

Mark Gatt has Ritza Coen in seven while John Finn will be represented by Waging War (box two) and Amarillo Highway (five).

The David Smith-trained Prim And Proper, who upset long odds-on favourite ZIPPING Truvy over 600m at Dapto last week, has the rails while Takahi Nipper, box eight, will be the outsider.

"Prim And Proper went well last week but this field is even stronger and I am not confident,'' Smith said.

Prim And Proper clocked 34.42 last Thursday while Ritza Coen has recorded 34.27 but Waging War will go into the race without a run on the track.

Waging War won over 618m at Richmond in 35.69 before a good second to Incapacitated there in 35.36 last week and Melinda Finn, whose husband John trains the dog, does not believe the lack of Dapto know-how will worry the dog.

"Waging War has had 50 races on many different tracks so they all come alike to him now, it is mainly younger dogs which need to have a look at a track before they race there,'' Finn said.
