Zipping Zeek Looks A Class Above

By Jeff Collerson
Zipping Zeek might be contesting a Free-For-All on Wednesday night but Jason Magri's outstanding sprinter looks several classes above his rivals and should have no problem notching his seventh win in 13 appearances at Wentworth Park.

Zipping Zeek's three rivals have rung up a combined total of just two wins from 17 starts at headquarters and none have broken the 30sec barrier, while Magri's dog has gone as fast as a near record 29.35, recorded on August 1.

Although he began brilliantly when he clocked that personal best Wentworth Park time nearly six weeks ago, Zipping Zeek is inclined to be slow to leave the boxes.

But that trait should not be a disadvantage on Wednesday as it could help him avoid the speedy Hooper, who has box one and tends to use a bit of the track.

Fabre Yap pulled off a $19 upset win when he scored his fourth Wentworth Park 280m win in seven outings last Wednesday and is drawn to land another short course event in the Ladbrokes Cash In Free-For-All.

Trainer Michael Galea is pleased with Fabre Yap's box six draw, pointing out that his dog has won nine of 21 starts from boxes six, seven and eight.

"Fabre Yap loves it out wide and when he won last Wednesday he clocked a flying first split of 5.20,'' Galea said.

"They don't go much faster than that so if he repeats those figures he will be hard to beat.

"I have studied the form of the dogs drawn around him and so long as he begins as quickly as he usually does he should get a clear run to the first turn.

"When he cut across the hot favourite Blue Bronte soon after the start last week, Fabre Yap was dragged down slightly so he did well to hang on and win comfortably.

"That race was Fabre Yap's first since late April but he pulled up well and all he has done since has been his regular exercise on the walking machine.''

Trainer Tony Hokin has siblings produced by his former handy sprinter Where's Jude making their first Wentworth Park appearances on Wednesday night.

Darcy's Promise, who has won three of her past four starts at Dapto, has box two in the 520m Totalec Pty Ltd Stakes while her litter brother Report In, who has had a win and a second in two Richmond races, will exit box one in the 520m MDC2020 It's On Stakes.

"It's unusual for me to bring inexperienced greyhounds like this to Wenty so early in their careers but it is currently too difficult to find 520m races for them at provincial tracks,'' Hokin said.

"Darcy's Promise is an excellent railer and is a good beginner with early pace but she is not over-strong at the finish.

"Report In is a bit quicker than his sister and while he might get off the track a little he is not what you would call a wide runner so box one should suit him.''

Trainer Steve Lambley would be pleased to see his dog Such A Buzz opposing Darcy's Promise as it is the third race on the card and Such A Buzz is what his trainer calls "a bad kennel dog.''

Lambley said: "Such A Buzz is much better off when he is in an early race because she plays up in the race night kennels.''

Lambley's dog caught the eye at his Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday when he chased Seen Around from start to finish, with the winner clocking a smart 29.97 and defeating Such A Buzz by just two lengths.

Eva One, a litter sister to recent dual Wentworth Park winner Romantic Storm, looks set to open her account after drawing box one in Wednesday's second heat of the 520m Ladbrokes Back Yourself Maiden.

The Peter Rodgers-trained bitch was making her debut and was first to leave the boxes and second at the first turn before being runner-up to Special Effects in a similar race at Wentworth Park last week.

Her toughest rival tonight could be the unraced Aisle Blue, whose trainer Owen Langley prepared her dam Aisle Tifi.

Aisle Tifi, who won 15 races and reached top grade at Wentworth Park, was noted for her dazzling speed out of the starting traps.

"Unfortunately Aisle Blue is nothing like her mother in that respect, in fact so far she is a bad box dog,'' Langley said.

"Aisle Blue has had a couple of trials at WP without setting the world on fire but was only whelped in January last year so I think if she is going to have real success it will be further down the track.''
