Blue Bronte To Continue Her Amazing Winning Run

By Jeff Collerson
Blue Bronte, who has box one in tonight's 280m Free-For-All at Wentworth Park, has won a remarkable 21 of her 27 starts but trainer John Miles believes her most recent win was arguably her most impressive.

Last Friday Blue Bronte ran down brilliant speedster General Cortez to win easily over 400m at LADBROKES GARDENS in a smart 22.61 and Miles was delighted with that performance.

"She jumped midfield and had to get past a couple of smart ones before heading General Cortez and then shaking him off in the run home,'' Miles said.

"I thought it was among her better runs because she did not jump in front and had to do it the hard way.''

Blue Bronte is undefeated in four races wearing the red rug although box positions tend to make little difference to her because she is usually a fast beginner.

Miles also has Not Today, who has had five wins and three placings from eight starts, making her WP debut in the 520m Ladbrokes Back Yourself Stakes.

"Not Today has not trialled at Wenty but so far she has been pretty smart in a field,'' Miles said.

"In her eight races she has not found much trouble or run into any of her rivals as she has been making her way through the field.

"Not Today has box six at Wenty but I don't think the wide draw will worry her.''

Hardest for Not Today to beat in this strong fifth grade look to be Wanda Maximoff (box one) and Seen Around (box five).

Steve Lambley, who trains Wanda Maximoff, also has Such A Buzz in box two in the same race.

"Wanda Maximoff is a bit quicker than Such A Buzz and when I trialled them together at Appin recently she beat him by three lengths,'' Lambley said.

"Although she has not raced at Wenty I have given Wanda Maximoff plenty of experience at the track.

"She has had a box-to-box finish-on, a hand-slip from the catching pen, and then last week she clocked 30.22 in a 520m solo trial.

"Wanda Maximoff is mad for the rails so I am hoping she can jump as well as she usually does and can lead around the first turn.

"Such A Buzz is boxed okay in two and I am pleased he is in race two, because he is a bad kennel dog and does not go as well when he is in a late race.''

Mottza will be on trial for a tilt at the $100,000 to the winner Masters Meteor series during the TAB Million Dollar Chase carnival when he contests tonight's 520m Free-For-All.

Mottza has box seven and trainer Jackson Chaker expects the dog to be the pacemaker.

"I slipped him post-to-post at Wenty last week and he clocked 24.38 which is pretty quick,'' Chaker said.

"When he has come out of the 520m boxes at Wentworth Park previously Mottza has usually been able to run a first split of 5.40 and when he led all the way over 400m at Richmond on August 21 his first section was 8.02.

"That is absolutely flying and I believe his overall time of 22.44 was the quickest over 400m at Richmond this year.

"Mottza should lead for a long way but I don't want a real strong dog sitting right on his hammer in the early stages.''

Nangar Diva, who has box six, boasts by far the event's fastest Wentworth Park 520m time of 29.55 and is likely to be the greyhound Mottza has to hold off in the final 200m.
