Minor Miss A Major Player With Box 1

By Jeff Collerson
Minor Miss has not been out of the placings in seven Wentworth Park starts but trainer Justin King has not been happier than seeing her in box one in Wednesday's 520m Ladbrokes Back Yourself Stakes at the Glebe course.

Minor Miss has had a win, three seconds and three thirds at headquarters and is a reliable beginner who has made the pace in most of her races.

"This will be her 24th start and will be the first time she has drawn box one, the alley that suits her most,'' King said.

"I was really happy with her second last Saturday night at Wentworth Park because while she led to the home turn, she was run down by Hurricane Frank, a good 600 metre dog.

"There were only five runners and that suited Hurricane Frank who was able to sit right behind Minor Miss until the top of the straight yet beat her by less than a length.

"Minor Miss made him work hard for the win and for a front runner like her I thought that was a good effort.

"I worked Minor Miss on Monday morning and she went extra well, she is ready to run a big race.''

Not so happy with his greyhound's draw but still giving her a good chance on Wednesday night is western districts trainer Scott Board, who has Spring Barty in box eight in the expertlongshot.com Stakes, 520m.

Spring Barty has won five of 10 provincial starts and has posted fast times of 30.76 for the Richmond 535m trip, 29.48 over 520m at Bathurt and a slick 24.66, just .32sec outside the Goulburn 440m track record, shared by group 1 winners Let It Develop and Good Odds Harada.

Last Wednesday night Spring Barty exited box six in a similar event to Wednesday night's race and finished third, just under three lengths behind the winner Chrome, and Vamos Penny, one of her rivals on Wednesday.

"Spring Barty can't take a trick with the box draw at Wenty and I would rather see her drawn inside, especially as Vamos Penny is boxed underneath her again this week,'' trainer Scott Board said.

"Last week Spring Barty dipped down on her nose as she left the starting boxes and then took a bad check at the first turn.

"Only for what happened at the start I think she might have been able to lead around the first corner.

"But she pulled up well and despite the wide draw will still be hard to beat if she gets a clear run.''

Spring Barty clocked a smart 29.99 in defeat last Wednesday and should only need a clean getaway to be up near the front of the pack in the early stages.

In-form trainer Jodie Lord landed a winning double at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and has strong claims on Wednesday night with Go Wild Bella, who has box five in the 520m Congratulations Chris Lawrence Stakes, and Ritza Donald, drawn four in the 520m Free-For-All.

"I am especially confident about Go Wild Bella's chances,'' Lord said.

"She has good early speed and can run 520m but when she got run down by a strong finisher in Tap Out Sniper at Wenty last Wednesday, she was unable to go straight to the front.

"Doonside Gangsta, a quick dog with good 330m and 400m form, beat her to the first bend and got in her way in the early and middle stages.

"Go Wild Bella eventually worked her way to the front but had nothing left when Tap Out Sniper was sitting behind her at the top of the straight.

"Ritza Donald won a Free-For-All at Wenty on August 1 and he is due to get the cash again too.''

Ritza Donald has won six of 12 Wentworth Park outings but missed the jump slightly when second to Unreal Ethics in a tougher Free-For-All at Wentworth Park last Wednesday.
