Tears Shed On An Emotional Night At Gosford

By Michael Cowley
They can be at times a hardened lot, for many it’s almost a badge of honour. But you would have struggled to find a dry eye at Gosford greyhound track a little after 7pm on Tuesday night.

Having just his third start, Bruce Mick Glenn led throughout to win race two on the program, the FAIRYTALE Cleaning Maiden. The dog had been prepared by Central Coast trainer Troy Donaldson, before his sudden, untimely death on Sunday morning.

Troy, who was considered one of the most promising young trainers in NSW, tragically passed away in his sleep aged just 38 on Sunday morning. He is survived by his partner Chrystal Hensing, and their two children, Jett and Scarlett, and a daughter, Charlie, from a previous relationship.

Bruce Mick Glenn, racing in Chrystal’s name at Gosford having been transferred from Troy’s, was the last dog that Troy had nominated before his tragic death, and most will now consider it his final winner.

And if the victory itself had not been enough to savagely yank at the heartstrings of all in the industry - not only those on track - the dog was paraded in front of the crowd, pre-race, by young Jett Donaldson.

The stewards on course met on Tuesday and gave their authority for Jett to parade the dog alongside licenced trainer Kent Strongman who has been helping Chrystal in recent days with the greyhounds.
