Vale Troy Donaldson

By GRNSW
Greyhound Racing NSW wishes to offer its condolences to the family and friends of Central Coast trainer Troy Donaldson, who suddenly, and tragically passed away at age 38 over the weekend.

Troy, a father of two, was considered one of the most promising young trainers in NSW, and climbed to the summit of the sport back in January this year when he won his first Group 1, preparing Oh Mickey to win the National Derby at Wentworth Park, for Queensland owner Clint Kratzmann.

“This is just devastating news which has rocked the entire industry,” GRNSW Chief Executive Tony Mestrov said.

Troy was one of the new breed of successful young trainers in our industry. I remember his delight when he won the National Derby with Oh Mickey, and he also produced the flying Jet Jackson to win the Young Star on Million Dollar Chase night last year.

“Our hearts, and our thoughts go out to Chrystal and their children Jet and Scarlett, as well as Troy’s wider family and vast group of friends both in and out of the industry. It is a very sad and tragic time.”

Troy had two runners at LADBROKES GARDENS on Saturday night, Gas Flame which finished third, and Bones McCoy which won a fifth grade event.

The family appreciate all the support the community is giving them at this time, but have asked if they could at the moment be given their privacy, as they need time, and space, to deal with this tragedy.

They have also asked that in lieu of flowers, if donations could be made, and more details of that fundraising will be available soon.
