Formula 1s Set To Fly at Wenty

By Jeff Collerson
Flying Ricciardo has shown the speed of her Formula 1 namesake Daniel Ricciardo to win three of her four starts and from box one will be all the rage to score first-up at Wentworth Park in Wednesday night's 280m Ladbrokes Odds Boost Multi Stakes.

The Kristy Sultana-trained speedster disputed the early lead but railed superbly from box three to win easily over 330m at Richmond at her most recent start on June 19.

She stopped the clock at a slick 18.63s, .27s outside course record time, after producing track record figures of 18.91s when winning on debut over 340m at Bulli on May 30.

Ferrari Blaster has been unplaced in each of three Wentworth Park races but trainer Peter Akers believes his dog is much improved going into Wednesday's Thank You GWIC Vets Stakes, 520m.

Ferrari Blaster has box one and although the dog tended to get wide at Wentworth Park early in his career, Akers explained a minor operation had changed the dog's racing technique.

"We found out one of his testicles was caught up in his groin and since having that taken out, the dog is railing and racing well,'' Akers said.

"At his first race after the operation he won over 388m at Gosford in a fast 22.12s and he recently trialled 29.70s over 515m at LADBROKES GARDENS before winning there in 29.86s, best time of the meeting, at his most recent race on June 19.

"I used to prefer him drawn wide but these days I like him in box one.''

Utah Blues won in 30.31 at his first Wentworth Park outing on June 10 and trainer Joe Satti expects that dog's kennelmate and litter sister will be hard to beat when she makes her city debut in Wednesday's Thank You GBOTA Staff Stakes, 520m.

"Utah Misty is usually a good beginner so box six should not be a problem and she is stronger at the finish of her races than her brothers Utah Blues, Utah Ghost and Utah Express,'' Satti said.

"Utah Misty has improved out of sight over the past three or four weeks and when I gave her a trial at Wenty last week she recorded 30.08s and ran home in a solid 11.80s.''

Unluckiest loser at Wentworth Park last Wednesday was Green Siren, who missed the jump and was badly hampered at the first turn before flashing home to finish second, beaten less than a length in 30.51s.

The dog had box eight last week and moves into box two for Wednesday night's 520m Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes.

"There is no denying Green Siren has a big motor but he lacks a bit of early pace so there is always a chance he can find trouble,'' trainer Darryl Thomas said.

"But I think he will handle box two okay.''

When it comes to box draws, there has not been an unluckier greyhound than Brindalee, a "desperate'' railer who has not drawn closer than box four in her past 11 starts.

Brindalee will exit box one in Wednesday's 280m Ladbrokes Switch Free-For-All, prompting trainer Alex Verhagen to exclaim: "Finally!''

Despite an exasperating sequence of unsuitably wide draws, Brindlee has managed to be placed in six of those 11 races and with wide runner Whata Lurker in two, gets her chance to score her 12th win.

"I realise Brindalee is in against a hot field but she has been racing strong opposition from bad boxes in recent weeks,'' Verhagen said.

"When she ran second, from box seven over 314m at Taree last week, she was taking ground off the winner One For Tod at the finish, and that greyhound has won several 280m races at Wentworth Park where he has won in 16 seconds flat.''

Provincial star Mercator Bell makes her first Wentworth Park appearance in the 520m Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Stakes at after winning five of seven races on out-of-town courses.

"She has the ability to win at Wenty if everything goes her way but she has box three and there is a lot of early pace in her race,'' trainer Carole Eaton said.

"I gave Mercator Bell a post-to-post slip at Wentworth Park last week and she clocked 24.47s, which the experts tell me is more than satisfactory for a newcomer.''
