Beau Herrera Happy Turning Twice

By Jeff Collerson
Beau Herrera, who raced exclusively on one-turn tracks in Victoria in winning six of his first 21 starts, completed his adaption to two-turn courses by scoring his second win in as many Wentworth Park appearances on Saturday night.

Trained by Mark Gatt for Sydneysiders Danny Oliver, Mick Whyte and Ivan O'Brien, Beau Herrera worked hard to come from behind in 29.92s after leading throughout in a sizzling 29.72 a week earlier.

"We raced Beau Herrera's dam, Jodie Madgio, and she was a grand daughter of Maureen Shirly, who won a Sandown Laurels,'' part-owner Danny Oliver said.

"Jodie Madgio won six races and Beau Herrera is from her first litter, sired by Barcia Bale.

"We have had greyhounds trained in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania, but could not be happier with how we are going with Mark Gatt in Sydney.

"Glen Starr rears all the pups we breed and we are in this for the long haul, currently owning 20 greyhounds.

"Among the dogs we have raced are Maya Herrera, a winner of 14 races, and Flash Focus, who won five, and we intend breeding and racing many more.''

Hardaway Titan is set to tackle next Sunday's Bendigo Cup heats.

The Ron Marden-trained greyhound took his record to an astonishing 25 wins from 41 starts when he defeated an outstanding lineup of top grade sprinters at Maitland last Thursday.

"There are very few other options for Hardaway Titan at the moment so it looks like I will have to make the trip to Bendigo with him,'' Marsden said.

"The track should suit him and although he won't have trialled there beforehand, I don't think that will worry him.

"All tracks come alike to Hardaway Titan and he won first-up at Healesville, another Victorian course, in August.

"I would love to have also taken his brother Hardaway Harada, who has won 32 of 62 starts, to Bendigo but he is sidelined with an injury at present.''
