Wenty Trebles For Father and Son

By Jeff Collerson
Trainer Mark Gatt and his father Frank had a night to remember at Wentworth Park on Saturday while evergreen all-distance performer Blue Moon Rising notched his 40th win and took his earnings past the $500,000 mark.

Mark Gatt trained Ritza Coen and Ritza Gloria, both owned by his dad, to win in 29.59s and 29.98s, while he also won with the Victorian-owned Beau Herrera in 29.92s.

While son Mark landed a treble his father also scored three wins as an owner, with Ritza Donald, trained for Frank Gatt by Jodie Lord, ringing up his fifth win in seven Wentworth Park outings, clocking 29.95.

Time honours for the night were with the Jason Magri-trained Zipping Zeek, who came from midfield at box rise to win in 29.53s.

The John Finn-trained Blue Moon Rising (pictured) took out the Vale Noel Kelly Masters Stakes and while his figures of 30.09s were well wide of his personal best Wenty 520m time of 29.58s, it was his 40th win in 128 starts and lifted his earnings to $500,103.

Trainer John Finn's wife Melinda said: "Because he has not been racing over 720m lately Blue Moon Rising has been crazy at home, he seems to have so much pent up energy and is constantly full of beans and raring to go.''

Zipping Zeek and Wenty newcomer Xerri ran slashing trials for next month's group 1 Vic Peters Classic with their wins on Saturday.

Zipping Zeek has now won eight of 12 starts while the Darryl Thomas-trained Xerri led throughout from box five to win on debut in town in a sizzling 29.62s.

After the race owner Wayne Hunter said: "We expected him to go well because when Darryl slipped him post-to-post at Wenty he clocked 23.80 which is very quick.''

Xerri's sectional figures were "airborne'' as he recorded splits of 5.46s, 13.72s and 17.78s.

Unison continued his remarkable form for trainer Michelle Sultana by winning at his first Wentworth Park start in 29.78s, posting early splits of 5.45s, 13.80s and 17.86s.

"He got a bit tired in the straight but that was understandable because tonight's race was the first time Unison had been over 520m,'' Sultana said later.

Owner Chris Brydon was delighted with the win but annoyed that Unison is just a couple of weeks too old to contest next month's Vic Peters Classic.

After Ritza Coen clocked a brilliant 29.59s to win race three at Wentworth Park, running home in an electrifying 11.55, trainer Mark Gatt said: "Being in an early race was a help for this dog.

"When he is in a late race Ritza Coen is inclined to work himself up too much while in the race night kennels.

"He is much quicker than Ritza Gloria, who also won for me tonight, although she is a more tenacious chaser.''

No Problem Here registered his third successive Wentworth Park win over the past three Saturdays when he led throughout from an unsuitable box seven draw in 29.84s.

"It was only a matter of him getting across to the rails but once he did that they weren't going to beat him,'' trainer Michael Clayton said.

"No Problem Here is racing with so much confidence at the moment.''
