Sunset to Shine at Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson
"She has drawn the right side of the track'' declared trainer Ross Davidson when his promising young stayer Sunset Bourbski came up with box seven for Wednesday night's Thanks Track Vision Providers Stakes at Wentworth Park.

Davidson was delighted to see the wide running two-year-old out in box seven for her first 720m assignment in NSW.

Sunset Bourbski followed a slick 36.46 Bathurst 618m win on June 1 with fast finishing second placings over that distance at Richmond six days later and in a 520m event at her first Wentworth Park outing last Wednesday.

"Last Wednesday's race was designed to give her experience at Wenty leading up to this 720m event and I was happy to see her come through the race unscathed,'' Davidson said.

"Since last week Sunset Bourbski has been enjoying a few slips up the straight and although she only comes up in a little over a canter that's all she needs and she is bouncing around and is happy.

"I'm rapt to see her drawn out wide on Wednesday so there will be no excuses from me if Sunset Bourbski is beaten.''

Utah Express, who has won three of four provincial starts at Bulli and Richmond in dazzling style, is expected to run a big race from box three at his Wentworth Park debut in Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Switch Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Utah Express posted a best time of the meeting 30.54 winning over 535m at Richmond at his most recent outing on June 5 and is unlikely to have any problem adjusting to the Wentworth Park circuit.

"I trialled him there last week and he clocked 29.80 for the 520m,'' trainer Jason Magri said.

"Utah Express is maturing nicely and has the makings of a really good dog.''

As none of his rivals on Wednesday has broken 30sec in a race at Wentworth Park, Utah Express should only need a clear run to win first-up at headquarters.

Litter brothers Midnight Escape and Night Tracker, a pair of recent highly priced purchases by successful thoroughbred owner Robert Jones, make their keenly anticipated debuts at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

The Sid Swain-trained duo will contest heats one and two of the Magic Maiden Series over 520m, with Midnight Escape in box two in the opening event and Night Tracker drawn in seven in the second race.

Swain is happy with the way his pair has been trialling but warned racegoers not to expect too much of the 23 month old youngsters.

"They don't lack Wenty experience as I have given each of them three trials around the track,'' Swain said.

"If Midnight Escape gets a clear run I reckon he can clock around 30.10 while his brother Night Tracker is capable of getting down to 29.90.

"Midnight Escape has more early pace but Night Tracker is stronger at the finish.

"Midnight Escape has a better draw and while they can both win, being in a full field under race conditions is a new experience for them.

"In maiden races like these, where many of the starters are competing against more than one dog for the first time, interference plays a big role in the outcome.''

Good value on Wednesday should be the Jenny Brown-trained Swift Burner, who has box three in race six, a 520m fifth grade.

Swift Burner bungled the start and found early trouble when a strong finishing fourth at his WP debut last Wednesday before jumping in front for an all-the-way win, from box one, in a slick 26.35 over 472m at Bulli on Saturday.
