Triple Trifecta Believe It or Not

By Jeff Collerson
Almost worth a mention in Ripley's Believe It Or Not were the placings in Monday night's 388m Gosford Free-For-All where Bumpy Black defeated Laurie's Flyer and Luchador in the Free-For-All - for the third successive occasion at the same course, over the same distance.

The trio had run the trifecta, in the same finishing order, at the Gosford fixtures on May 11 and 18.

On the 11th Bumpy Black ran down Laurie's Flyer in 21.98s, with Luchador in third place, while the placings were identical there a week later, with Bumpy Black edging out Laurie's Flyer in 21.96 in a tight photo finish.

Monday night produced the same result, with Laurie's Flyer again the pacemaker but finding Bumpy Black too strong in 22.05s on a wet track, while Luchador again picked up the minor prizemoney.

"My dog had box one in each of those three races,'' Luchador's trainer James Porter said.

"While he is a good railer who would normally be suited by box one, with the staggered method of putting the dogs in the boxes these days, he has been first in and can be sitting waiting for the start for up to 90 seconds.

"Luchador will go better when he has to be in the starting line for less time and he has broken 22s in a 388m trial at Gosford

"But he has acquitted himself well considering Bumpy Black and Laurie's Flyer are two of the fastest short course greyhounds in training.''
