Prim And Proper set for winning return

By Jeff Collerson
Prim And Proper has not raced since dislocating a toe two months ago but is ready to win first-up at Richmond on Wednesday night

With two wins and four placings from seven starts at Wentworth Park, Prim And Proper is easily the best performed runner in the 535m Greyhound Products Direct Stakes, a fourth and fifth grade event.

And with a personal best 535m time of 30.71s, Prim And Proper, who looks well positioned in box two, is also the quickest of the six starters in Wednesday's race.

Trainer David Smith said: "Prim And Proper was a last start winner at Richmond on March 27 but must have dislocated her toe in the catching pen because she was limping after the race.

"She received an incapacitation certificate for 21 days but is right again now and has been trialling well.

"I gave her a 472m trial at Bulli last Wednesday and she recorded 26.54s which is as fast as she has ever gone there.

"Prim And Proper is not really suited to Bulli and goes better on a track like Richmond.''

Magic Awaits has been unplaced at his past two starts but a huge drop in class can put the well-performed dog back in the winner's circle in Wednesday night's South Windsor Butchery Stakes, a 535m fifth grade.

Magic Awaits' personal best Richmond 535m time is 30.69s, far quicker than the nearest figures of 30.96s posted by his nearest rival Wilshire Girl on Wednesday night.

"I am glad he has box one, that will help him a lot,'' Magic Await's trainer Tony Messina said.

"Early in his career he was inclined to get a bit wide but he rails much better these days and is best suited from an inside box.

"I have done a lot of box work with him recently and he has been coming out a lot better at his past few starts.''

Magic Awaits led all the way from box five to win a fourth grade at Richmond in 30.69 on May 10.

He faced top grade opposition when sixth, from box six, there on May 15, but in that race, won by Armed Assassin, Magic Awaits also chased home Ebby Infrared, Really Unreal, All Star Punk and Roused, all Wentworth Park winners.

The class difference between that lineup and Wednesday's field is massive and that gap, coupled with the move to the rails box, should allow Magic Awaits to take his already consistent record to seven wins, six seconds and two thirds from 30 starts.

Good value on Wednesday should be Isaac's Spirit, who came from fourth early to finish second on debut at Richmond last Friday.

Isaac's Spirit had drawn box five but finished strongly along the rails and should relish exiting box two in Wednesday night's 330m Ladbrokes Maiden Stakes.

Isaac's Spirit is trained locally by Chris Arletos, who won seven races, including three at Wentworth Park, with the greyhound's dam Take Over Fox, who was a noted front-runner.

The start could decide the result of Wednesday's 400m Ladbrokes Masters Stakes, with Amy's Will and Give Us Peace, a pair of usually brilliant begInners, in boxes one and two respectively.

On sectional times posted when they were both placed at their latest Richmond 400m outings, Give Us Peace has a slight .03sec early speed advantage over her arch rival.
