Improved box manners makes David's dog Unreal

By Jeff Collerson
Unreal Ethics missed a place at his first four starts but slightly improved box manners have contributed to the black dog winning four of his past five races, the latest in dashing style at Bulli on Saturday night.

Owned and trained by his breeder David Smith, Unreal Ethics won a 515m Mixed Stakes in the handy time of 29.30, .30sec outside the slick best of the night posted by Utah Ghost.

"When he began racing he was shocking beginner,'' Smith said of Unreal Ethics.
"In those early races he not only came out last, but in two of his first four starts he left the boxes around 10 lengths behind the field.
"He has finally learned to settle down in the boxes but Unreal Ethics is still very much a hit or miss beginner.''

Smith is up there with big name trainers Jason Mackay and Jason Magri on current form, as over the past week he has won doubles at Richmond last Sunday and at Goulburn on Tuesday, while also winning races at Richmond on Wednesday, Dapto (Thursday), Goulburn (Friday) and now at Bulli.
"The kennel is having a really good run, I think eight of our past nine runners have won,'' a jubilant Smith said.

Utah Ghost remains unbeaten after three Bulli wins over different distances following his 515m success in fastest time of the night on Saturday.

The Joe Satti-bred, owned and trained youngster won on debut over 400m on April 11, scored over 472m a week later and has now been successful at his first attempt at 515m.
"I have been building up for a crack at 520m at Wentworth Park when racing resumes there,'' an excited Satti said.

Fastest 472m figures on Saturday were posted by Here Comes Joe, but his 26.26 was only .04sec quicker than the time recorded by former Victorian Beau Herrera in a 472m fifth grade.
"Beau Herrera was sent to me from Victorian owner Danny Oliver, who races a lot of greyhounds, and I've had the dog about six weeks,'' trainer Mark Gatt said.
"Because he has won six races in Victoria Beau Herrera was in top grade when fifth and third in 400m races at Bulli earlier this month so I nominated him for a 472m race on Saturday so he would drop back in grade.
"He did really well to run down One Fury and after a couple more Bulli 472m races I will take Beau Herrera to Richmond to give him a 535m race or two in order to get him ready for Wentworth Park.
"Just about all Beau Herrera's racing in Victoria has been on big one-turn tracks like Bulli so he needs experience on a course like Richmond before being tried at Wenty.''

Offline gave short priced favourite backers a scare before surging home to win Saturday's opening event, a 400m maiden, in the moderate time of 22.89.

Offline bungled the start but finished powerfully to overtake tearaway leader Takahi Toby near the finish line.
"Offline is very immature and is still learning but there is hope for him because he is such a good chaser,'' trainer Peter Lagogiane said.
"He will be better suited over a longer trip than Saturday's 400m.''

Fastest 400m times on Saturday were shared by the Jason Magri-trained duo Rumble Master and GINA Keeping, whose winning double gave the in-form Kemps Creek mentor training honours for the meeting.
