Could this be another Freight Train coming?

When Milakai won on debut at Bulli last Saturday night he posted faster time than the mighty Pindari Express did at his first test over the 472m journey there.

Milakai led throughout in "group time'' of 26.06s while Pindari Express (pictured) stopped the clock at 26.11s at his initial Bulli 472m hit-out in June, 2018.

A giant 38kg dog, Milakai is owned and trained by Greg Remfry, who bred the dog from his bitch Mumza Pearl, who won first up at Wentworth Park on December 30, 2015.

She was retired to stud after a brief 20 race career which yielded five wins and five placings.

Remfry, a coal miner, said: "Peter Stanford at Wallerawang broke in Milakai and gave him a big wrap after the dog's education course was completed.

"But then Milakai lost form, he was still going quick early but wasn't getting to the line at all.

"Then I discovered his tonsils were terribly enlarged.

"After having the tonsils removed Milakai came good again but then he got hurt in a trial when the lure stopped and the dog tried to pull up instantly and did a somersault, hurting himself.

"Between the tonsillitis and that mishap it was a long time before I could finally get him to the races.

"Before the accident Milakai had trialled 22.40s over 400m at Bulli and 26.30s over the 47m course so there was never any doubt about his ability.

"He was going to be in the Group 3 Magic Maiden heats at Wentworth Park on March 25 but when they had to be cancelled I went to Bulli with him.

"For such a big dog Milakai seems to be close to perfect because he is good early and is strong at the finish.''

ROBERT Jones, the prolific owner of thoroughbreds who got involved with greyhounds when he purchased top grader Watch The Wasp and Group 1 winner Buck's Future as youngsters, was in the winner's circle again on Monday at Bathurst with Jazzy Jones.

Having her first start and trained by Sid Swain, who prepares Buck's Future, Jazzy Jones led throughout to win over 450m in the handy time of 26.13s.

"Robert bought Jazzy Jones at the Richmond Puppy Auction because she was so well bred, being by Fernando Bale from Sharron and Ray Webster's former top notch race bitch Lagoon Jazzy,'' Swain said.

Lagoon Jazzy made the pace in the 2017 Golden Easter Egg and after being headed on the back straight by Victorian-trained Striker Light, came again and was checked off the winner's heels in the straight before going under in a tight photo finish.

"At this stage Jazzy Jones is no world beater but she was only whelped in October, 2018, so has plenty of time to develop into a handy bitch,'' Swain added.

"I will nurse her along until she turns two but at this stage I don't know how much ability she will eventually possess.''

Jazzy Jones is from Lagoon Jazzy's second litter, with the first litter including Cousin Niall, who has won six races, and Cousin Sophia, runner-up in four from seven starts,  for their breeders, Sharron and Ray Webster.
