Nangar Rust, having only his second start for trainer Michael Hardman and owner Ray Tanti, almost stole the show from former kennelmate Nangar Diva at Bathurst on Friday night.
Nangar Diva, owned and trained by her breeder Dennis Barnes, was second early and hit the front of the back straight before racing away with the $25,000 feature event, the 520m Bathurst Cup, in 29.72sec.
Her former kennelmate Nangar Rust indicated he had a massive future with an outstanding win in the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Maiden Final, worth $9980 to the winner.
Nangar Rust, who had box two, was sixth at the first turn and a distant fourth entering the back straight before launching a powerful run out wide to be second at the point of the home turn.
The youngster then cleverly switched to the rails to storm home and comfortably defeat his litter sister, the Chris Spratt trained Boree Belle.
Boree Belle had looked the winner when she dashed near on the home corner.
Both Nangar Rust and Boree Belle are offspring of the Barnes family's former top class stayer Fancy Liza, who was trained by Spratt and who won over 720m at WP in 42.39 and a sizzling 41.94.
Fancy Liza has been a wonderful producer with her earlier offspring including Nangar Range (25 wins), Little Nangar (24), Nangar Rock (21), Nangar Bear (19) and Private Nangar (12).
After Friday's win, Nangar Rust's trainer Michael Hardman explained: "I have been wanting to buy him for Ray Tanti for quite a quite after Dennis Barnes, upon breaking in the dog, told me he believed he was going to be something special.
"At his first start Nangar Rust fell at Wentworth Park, on January 1.
"Dennis had earlier promised me that if he did decide to sell the dog, I would have first option of buying him.
"He agreed to sell Nangar Rust after the Wenty race and I bought him in mid January.
"He had his first race for me when second in his heat of the Ladbrokes Bathurst Maiden on January 27.
"Nangar Rust's final win on Friday was so powerful it convinced me the dog is going to become a top class stayer, just like his mother, Fancy Liza.
"I plan to nominate Nangar Rust for a one to two wins 535m event at Richmond on Sunday, and then to enter him for a similar race over 520m at WP.
"But I won't be persevering for too long over sprint journeys, Nangar Rust will be stepping up in distance pretty quickly.
"Ray Tanti, who has been a loyal owner with me, had a nice win at Bathurst as he had $1000 on Nangar Rust, put $100 on the double with him and Nangar Diva, and even struck the quinella in the maiden with Nangar Rust and his sister Boree Belle.''

SIX figure purchase Good Juan has come through his first trial for new trainer Harry Sarkis with flying colours.
"I gave the dog a post-to-post slip at Wenty after the final event last Wednesday night and the dog flew,'' Sarkis said.
"I have not nominated him anywhere yet, I need to get him fully settled in to my kennels and he has to get to know me, as well.''

JOHN Miles trained each of the three heat winners of the Kevin Waters Towing Cannonball at Richmond so it was only fitting that he should land the quinella with siblings Laurie's Flyer and Blue Bronte in Friday night's final.
Laurie's Flyer had scored his 11th win in 15 starts when he clocked 22.58 in his 400m heat while Blue Bronte posted 22.72 in her heat, taking her tally to seven victories from nine outings.
Before Friday's final Miles said: "Blue Bronte was the quicker of the pair until recently but Laurie's Flyer has kept improving and he is faster now.''
Miles was spot on, with Laurie's Flyer clocking 22.86 on the wet track to defeat Blue Bronte and give success in the time honoured race to his owner, Laurie Refalo, a long-time greyhound racing supporter.
Refalo annually sponsors the group 2 Gosford Gold Cup via his company Woy Woy Poultry.
