Maitland race meeting abandoned

Tonight’s Maitland race meeting has been abandoned due to the extreme weather in the area.

The meeting had originally been moved back in the hope of combatting the high temperatures forecast, but at race time for the first event, the temperature was still a staggering 39 degrees.

Following consultation between GRNSW and GWIC, the situation was closely monitored, but when there was no respite from the elevated temperature and uncomfortable conditions, it was decided that in the best interests of all, and most importantly the welfare of the dogs, that the meeting be abandoned.

With a forecast of more hot weather at Casino on Friday, a decision has also been made to move that race meeting forward, with the first event to now be run at 10.07am.

As there are small fields at the meeting, it has been decided that scratching’s will be brought forward but only to 8am on Friday morning.
