Merv Black, the inner west butcher who trained Wentworth Park's longest priced winner, passed away last Sunday.

Merv, who was in his early 80s, was a very capable hobby trainer who made his mark via his front running stayer Secret Sight.

She produced greyhound racing's biggest upset around 50 years ago when she won a heat of the Sydney Cup at Wentworth Park after being sent out at cricket score odds of 200/1 ($201).

A service for Merv Black will be held on Monday, January 20, in the Magnolia Chapel, Macquarie Park, Delhi Road, North Ryde.

It is also with sadness we advise Lazlo "Les" Schaumann passed away last Friday after a brave battle with cancer.

A professional soccer player in the 1960’s Les, along with wife Helga ventured into greyhound training in the late sixties and had success with many of their small team at Padstow,Get Even was a stayer who won 16 races and Brother Fritz their best sprinter who won 25 races.

Upon retirement from work they eventually landed in Nowra and won 25 races with Striped a bargain Dapto Auction purchase who made the rich Auction final.

A valued Shoalhaven Club Member and volunteer who will be missed by all at the Pinebowl, a Memorial Service will be held at the Shoalhaven Greyhound Track, Nowra on Tuesday 21st January at 11am.
