Magri kennelmates trifecta NSW Bred Maiden Final

The Jason Magri-trained littermates Zipping Sultan, Zipping Miranda and Zipping Zeek lived up to their lofty reputations by filling the trifecta in Saturday night's $10,000 to the winner NSW Bred Maiden Final at Wentworth Park.

Magri was quoted during the week as saying Zipping Sultan had always been "two lengths quicker'' that his more boomed litter brother Zipping Zeek and the trainer's judgment was vindicated on Saturday.

Zipping Sultan began faster than he did in his 30.16s heat win and led throughout, covering the 520m in a smart 29.85s, best time of the night, and winning by 10 lengths.

His sister Zipping Miranda, which Magri believes will develop into a stayer, was runner-up with Zipping Zeek just under a length away third.

Magri was at Bulli on Saturday night and owner Marty Hallinan handled the winner.

"Maybe now Jason might be tempted to enter him for next Friday night's National Derby heats, but it's up to him entirely,'' Hallinan said.

Castle Archer almost certainly earned a crack at Friday's Derby heats at Wentworth Park with a determined 30.26s win in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday.

The Jason Mackay-trained Castle Archer had a bumping duel with the speedy Gilded Lady rounding the first turn before gaining control on the back straight.

Glenn McKinley, whose partner Caroline Hughes owns Castle Archer, said: "This dog has not been out of the prizemoney, he has now had nine wins and five placings from 14 starts.

"That was a tough win tonight and with a clearer run he should be able to run quicker time.''

Forners Flame earned a tilt at Friday night's group 1 National Futurity heats with a first-up Wentworth Park win in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday.

Forners Flame went into the race after just two provincial wins, over 365m at Nowra and 520m at Dapto, but made full use of her wide box seven draw to win in 30.23s.

After the race trainer Sergio Forner, who bred the greyhound, said: "I gave her a post-to-post hand-slip at Wenty and she clocked 24.40.

"I wanted to bring her back to Wentworth Park last Tuesday night and give her a trial out of the 520m boxes but when I got her out of her kennel she was limping.

"I took her to the vet the next morning and there didn't seem to be anything amiss so she did well to win tonight after missing the trial.

"Forners Flame missed the jump again tonight but showed good speed to reach the lead at the first turn.''

Zipping Vernon drew box one for the first time in 10 starts and made full use of his rails alley to lead all the way in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday night.

"He nailed the start tonight and when the favourite Black Rampage, in box two, missed the jump, it made things a lot easier for Zipping Vernon,'' trainer Mark Davidson said.

"When he won at The Gardens early in his career Zipping Vernon got to the line strongly but in a couple of recent runs he has been weakening at the finish.

"That was worrying me so I had blood tests done on the dog but they showed nothing wrong.

"So I was relieved tonight when he came away to win by five lengths and ran home in the good time of 11.84s.''
