Brett skilfully collects the cash at Wauchope

Leading Queensland trainer Tony Brett added yet another feature race to his resume in, of all places, Wauchope.

Brett brought smart young sprinter Skilled to the mid north coast of New South Wales for the final of the Tweed Heads-Border Park Wauchope Challenge on Saturday night, and headed home with the trophy and the $20,000 first prize.

The highlight of the seven-race non-TAB meeting was the rich feature, with a good crowd on hand to witness the event.

Skilled came out of the two and raced away for an easy five length win in 25.90s.

Second went to Rivergum Road with Barbaresco, the odds-on favourite trained by Daryll Thomas, 2¼ lengths back in third.

The win improved Skilled’s record to four wins from five starts, and Saturday’s win was his second success in a $20,000 to the winner feature.

Back in December he won the heat and then the final of the Lismore Maiden Series.
