Kipling to continue writing a winning chapter

By Jeff Collerson

Kipling created a huge impression with his win on debut at Wentworth Park last month and is primed to go even faster in Saturday night's Merry Christmas Sam Vardakas Stakes at headquarters.

Kipling notched his eighth win in 11 starts when he won in 30.16 on November 29, jumping midfield from box seven before easily outpacing his rivals to lead at the first turn and win by four lengths.

"He has drawn the rails on Saturday and while boxes don't worry him much I do prefer Kipling on the fence as he is a mad railer,'' trainer Alan Pringle said.

"There has been nothing wrong with him since last month's win but I'm not one to race my dogs too often, every fortnight in the summer months is usually enough but I also like taking them to different tracks to keep them interested.

"I gave Kipling a trial at Temora last weekend for a change of scenery because if you send them around Wentworth Park all the time they finish up giving it away.

"Kipling's assets are that he loves to race and loves to chase and he possesses good early speed.

"I also have My Kinda Song in Saturday's race but while there is not much between her and Kipling in terms of ability, she is not as good a race dog as him.

"My Kinda Song is a big 32kg bitch who gallops high and tends to be a bit clumsy so while she trials fast on her own, she is not as good in a full field as Kipling.''

Non Plussed has been placed in six of eight Wentworth Park starts without winning but gets his chance after drawing box eight in Saturday's opening event, the 520m Merry Christmas Mark Merlino Stakes.

"He tends to head in a little bit when he draws an outside box but I still like him in box eight,'' trainer Chris Carl said.

"I far prefer to see him in box eight than box one and he is certainly well suited on Saturday, although Non Plussed does not win too often.

"His real future I believe will be as a stayer.''

Hardest for Non Plussed to beat looms as the JODIE Lord-trained Cawborne Footrot, who staged an amazing performance to win on debut at Wentworth Park on November 20.

That night Cawborne Footrot missed the start by eight lengths but swept around the field to win running away.

But while undoubtedly the fastest dog in Saturday's opening event, he will need luck from his awkward box four draw.

Grand Carter, who chased home Zipping Phil in last week's Gosford To Wenty Final, looks ideally placed in box one in Saturday's 520m Merry Christmas Steve Noyce Stakes.

"Grand Carter is getting better with every run he has,'' trainer Carole Eaton said.

"I was really pleased with his second behind Zipping Phil because Grand Carter had not previously seen Wentworth Park so he should be improved by that experience.''

Eaton has Grand Carter's litter brother Guy Incognito in the December 21 Family Fun @ WP Stakes and that dog is capable of leading throughout.

Usually a fast starter, Guy Incognito missed the jump when third at WP last week after making the pace to be placed in four of his previous eight Wentworth Park starts.

Highlight of Saturday night's meeting will be the Wenty return of fan favourite Feral Franky, who has box one up against the in-form Dual Keroma, in box two, in the 520m Free-For-All.
