Chica hits the century of Wenty wins

WHEN Blue Summer Sky staged a last-to-first performance to give trainer John Finn a winning treble at headquarters on Saturday night, the dog gave his dam Chica Destacada her 100th Wentworth Park winner.

Earlier in the night Finn was successful with Dylan's Magic, a son of Fernando Bale and Avondale Queen, while Dreamin' Is Free, a litter sister to Blue Summer Sky, by Barcia Bale from Chica Destacada, made it 99 city victories for her dam when she won over 720m.

Although Dylan's Magic notched only his second WP win in four appearances on Saturday night, Melinda Finn, deputising for husband John, who is recuperating at home after a stint in hospital, said: "This dog is improving all the Time.

"He is desperate for an inside box and did well to get across into third place at the first turn after coming from box seven tonight.

"I'm not surprised to see Dylan's Magic racing so well because he is the fastest young dog John and I have put around our local track, Richmond.

"We have had some fast dogs but none has gone as quick there as Dylan's Magic, who runs home at Richmond in 14.80.''

John Finn and Mark Gatt landed 50 per cent of Saturday's Wenty card, with Gatt scoring with Blistering and Love The Lovely, who won in identical Times of 30.05.

Young Star Classic winner Jet Jackson took his record to 13 wins from just 17 starts when he led throughout in 29.84, fastest Time of the night.

Trainer Troy Donaldson had runners on Saturday at LADBROKES GARDENS, but Jim Pateman, deputising for Donaldson, said: "Once Jet Jackson led they weren't going to beat him.

"He is a determined chaser and gives the impression he really wants to win, because he is hard to run down once he begins cleanly and leads like he did tonight.''

Former Richmond club manager Chris Carl has long claimed Run By Night is the fastest greyhound he has trained, and the dog upset long odds-on favourite Zipping Brady in 29.92 in Saturday's final event.

Run By Night had won only one from five races before Saturday, with poor box manners often bringing him unstuck.

While he did not jump fast on Saturday, Run By Night began a little better than usual and, given a clear run from box four, swept around Zipping Brady, who had box one, to lead at the first turn.

Full Blossom went some way to making up for a heartbreaking week for owner Ted Ciszewski and trainer Ron Lambert when she took out Saturday's first race in 30.30.

Full Blossom missed the jump but secured a dream rails run at the first turn when Non Plussed, the pacemaker, ran off the track and skittled Young Rodger, who was a close second at that point.

"There was a gap there and she took it,'' trainer Lambert said of Full Blossom.

"Until tonight we have had a bad week because Dreaming Time, who won four races at Wentworth Park as well as winning in a sizzling 24.89 over 450m at Maitland, died after being bitten by what we suspect was a snake.

"We had been keenly waiting for Dreaming Time to come in season so we could breed from her.''
